The life and legacy of Pastor/Rev. Dr. Zacchaeus Oke Afe.
Pastor/Rev. Dr. Zacchaeus Oke Afe passed on to glory on the 20th of April 2025. Rev. Dr. Afewas 85 years old and is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren. Born on the 8th of October 1939 in the vibrant town of Ilasa-Ekiti, Ekiti state in western Nigeria. He was a cherished son of late Chief Didu Olukosi Afé and late Mrs. Ajike Elizabeth Afe. Zacchaeus affectionately known as Oke, was the second of six siblings and a true role model to them.
Education
Daddy’s enthusiasm for knowledge was evident in his life. He began his educational
journey at St John Mary primary school, Ilasa-Ekiti, then proceeded to Egbe-Oba high
school now Federal government college, Ikole-Ekiti. He went to Adéọlá Odutola College,
Ijebu-Ode(HSC). His determination led him to gain an admission into the prestigious
University of Ife now known as Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ilé-Ifè where he
acquired his B.Sc (Social Sciences) Political Science in 1973. Daddy went to serve his
country under the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) from the second of July 1973 till the
30th of June 1974. Pastor Afe’s love for education urged him to further his professional
career by also gaining a doctorate’s degree at Faith Christian University; Doctor of theology
(TH.D) 1997 and a Ph.D in Christian Education at Cambridge World University, Carthage
Illinois, USA from 1997-1999.
Working Experience
Pastor/Rev. Dr. Zacchaeus Oke Afe was employed into the services of the Ministry of
Communications, Lagos as a Postal Clerk from 1964-1966. He worked as a clerk in the
Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation in Lagos from the year 1969-1970. In 1974 he was
employed as an Executive Officer at the Ministry of Labor, Lagos till 1975. He worked at S&K
Asbestos Nig. LTD, Lagos from1976 till March 1979. He was a Senior Manager at the
National Bank of Nigeria LTD, Lagos from the year 1979 till his retirement as a Senior
Manager, management services in the year 2000. He was the chairman and CEO of TOZBA
ENT. NIG. LTD, Lagos from the year 2000 till the day of his demise.
His Christian Life
Pastor/Rev. Dr. Zacchaeus Oke Afe was ordained as an elder at the Christ Gospel Apostolic
Church (CGAC) on the 14th of December 1975. Due to his devotion to the church and the
privilege of the most high he was ordained Pastor on the 8th of November, 1992. He also
served as a Pastor at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) on the 1st of May 2001. Daddy Afe was
also recognized as a licensed minister of Christ and given a certificate of ordination in “The
Gospel Ministry” by All Faith Chapel Gospel Mission International INC. He was a certified
member of the Bible Society of Nigeria on the 21st of March 1996.
Pastor/Rev. Dr. Z.O Afe was the Chairman, Amuwo-Odofin local government for the
Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria(CPFN) till the time of his death. He was also a
two time Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN), Amuwo-Odofin local
government. He made generous donations to Evangelical ministries in cash and kind and
supported other gospel ministries. He held his gospel leadership roles with enthusiasm,
love for the church and the love of God till his last days.
His Marital Life
The beautiful union between Pastor/Rev. Dr. Z.O Afe and late Lady Evangelist Beatrice
Oyinlola Afe was blessed by God on the 10th of September, 1970, at Ijebu Ode, Sotubo,
Sagamu. They both had six children together. After 9years of his wives death on the 17th of
May, 2010 he remarried Ganiat Abidemi Afe on the 30th of November, 2019. He was a leader
and a great husband to his wives. His wisdom and understanding on matters both great
and small is commendable. He was a very humble, giving, soft-spoken, affectionate, strong
in Christ, forward thinking, a philanthropist and treated everyone as an equal. He is blessed
with children and grandchildren who all live to testify of his good life today.
Daddy’s glorious death
Pastor/Rev. Dr. Z.O Afe, after attending to the matters of the church and enlightening the
members on an issue tabled in his presence. He gradually and quietly lowered into his seat,
his voice fading away in the presence of the church members, in the house of God he
passed. The last things daddy attended to before his demise was the matters of the church,
his enthusiasm and love for the church is ever evident even until the day of his death.
Revelation 14 Vs 13; Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “write this: Blessed are the dead
who die in the lord from now on”. “Yes”, says the spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for
their deeds will follow them”.
Rev. Dr. Zacchaeus Oke Afe, age 85 years, passed away on Easter Sunday, 20th of April, 2023, at Jakande Estate, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, Nigeria.
He was born on the 8th of October, 2025 in Ilasa-Ekiti, Ekiti State to High Chief Dudu Afe and Madam Afe.
He was a graduate of University of Ife (Now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. He was married to Late Lady Evangelist Beatrice Oyinlola Afe on (Marriage_Date) in (Marriage_Location) .
