Celebrating the Life of
April 20, 1943 — July 5, 2022
Thomas Dunn, Jr., loving son, dear brother, devoted husband, good friend, and trusted neighbor passed peacefully in his sleep over the July 4th weekend. He was 79. A native son of NE Washington, DC and a longtime resident of Bowie, MD, Tommy graduated from McKinley High School in 1961 and soon after enlisted in the Army National Guard, earning distinction as an expert rifleman and receiving an honorable discharge in 1970. Tommy later enrolled in Howard University, graduating with a degree in business administration in 1978, after which he combined a long and successful career in business management and accounting with a life full of the pursuit of the things he loved most, being with his wife Senora, friends, family, muscle cars, music, woodworking and sports.
Tommy was a witness to Woodstock, an avid photographer, a passionate tennis player and skier, a die-hard Washington football fan, and a master woodworking craftsman who built much of the handsome furniture in his meticulous home. Known for his booming voice (“Say the score out loud!” was his well-known on-court directive) and equal optimism, Tommy delighted in traveling with Senora from the mountains of Wyoming to the beaches of the Bahamas, honing his passion for craftsmanship on project after project, and sharing (loudly) his wonderful vinyl collection in his man cave filled with handmade stereo, record, CD and TV racks while shooting game after game of pool with friends and family, loving the competition as much as the company.
Tommy is predeceased by Senora, his wife and companion of 36 years, and his father Thomas Dunn, Sr. and mother Maude Dunn. He is survived by his sisters Ellen Dunn and Karen Dunn Shakkour (Peter), his goddaughter Kelsey Carter, nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. Despite Tommy’s absence, his home and spirit remain a testament to that never-ending optimism, his unexpected loss not diminishing his eternal hope. A virtual memorial service is being planned with details to follow.

God has chose that it was time for Him to call Tommy to his heavenly home
Tommy Dunn was a friend to me. We met in high school. His family lived on Webster St., NE and my family lived on South Dakota Ave., NE, right around the corner. We had mutual friends whom Tommy always talked to and cared about. He was concerned about others at all times. He loved music. He collected recordings of people who were not yet well known; his collection is probably very interesting. I remember his love of fast cars. He and another of our friends, nicknamed "Whip", had drag races on Puerto Rico Ave. Tommy showed me how to drive a stick shift. I know he dearly loved his late wife Sonora. I lost my wife in April and Tommy made me feel comforted when we talked. There are many great memories of him. Rest in peace my friend.
I am so grateful we were able to embrace, talk and laugh just before Tommy left us. What a life well lived and thankful for the many great times shared at family events. Much Love, Angie
Tommy and I haven't seen each other since high school, but I remember him as a Good Guy -- smart, funny, and generally good to be around.
