Susan (Sue) Adley-Warrick

Susan Lorraine (Sue) Adley-Warrick released her last breath on July 17, 2023 at Rex Hospital, with her husband, Lyle by her side. She loved life despite 13 years of recurrent cancer and treatments, and trusted that she would rest in the Everlasting Arms.
Sue is survived by her husband, Lyle, sister Sharon Adley, stepdaughters Melike Warrick (Matt Bailey) and Megan Warrick (Martin Khamala) and their families.
Born in 1948 to Celia and Robert J. Adley, Jr. , Sue was reared in a small Midwestern town but became attracted to cities and to the causes that stirred U.S. politics during her youth: civil rights, the anti-Vietnam war movement, and women's liberation. For a time she saw the Socialist Workers Party as a necessary agent for change, and was their candidate for U.S. Congress for Colorado District 1 in 1978.
The birth of her child, Corinne Celia Senter, in 1982 was a joyous event that altered Sue's perspective on life. She expected to teach her child how to have a good life, but she discovered that there is much to learn from observing the young child's abilities, drives, and responses. Corinne's accidental death nine years later was a deep wound, and reckoning with that new reality led to questions about identity, purpose and where one could place one's trust.
As an adult Sue lived in New York City, Denver, Phoenix, and Gary, Indiana, finally relocating with Lyle to Raleigh. Grateful for all the friends and co-workers along the way who encouraged her or corrected her, as needed. She was also grateful to the health care personnel and for the periods of remission, during which she had the pleasure of serving her Quaker meeting and Friends of Oberlin Village. Sue said there was no place that she'd rather be than North Carolina.
