Susan Collins

Susan Elizabeth (Jones) Collins died unexpectedly, on Christmas eve December 24, 2023.

Born on July 26, 1947 in Yorkshire, England where her heart never left. She loved the green rolling hills, the sheep dotted across the countryside like cotton balls, stone cottages, warm fires, and the elegant cultural ceremony of the Monarchy. She immigrated to the United States at age 10 with her mother and father (Colin and Joan Jones). Here she married Tom Collins in 1972. They had two daughters Jenn (47) and Stephanie Collins (46) who now live in Northern California.

Susan was a very kind and empathetic person. She loved her family and dedicated much of her life to her mother, husband, and two daughters. She volunteered her time helping and supporting others. Some of the organizations she actively served were the Mystic School for the Deaf, Daughters of Isabella, Saint James', Saint Joseph’s, and Saint Patrick’s churches, Saint Michael's school, Literacy Volunteer (ESL teacher), the Gentle Touch Program at L&M hospital, knitting scarves for the homeless and elderly, and countless other causes that were important to her heart. 

She enjoyed home decorating, gardening, calligraphy (was a member of the Mystic Calligraphers), painting, drawing, pastels, photography (received awards for her work and did work for the North Stonington Historical Society and Women's Voices). She was also a certified Reiki practitioner and had a strong affection for animals, always having at least one house cat.

Her years living in Stonington with her husband Tom were wonderful, where they had a lovely home together surrounded by stone walls and gardens that Tom had built for her. 

She will be forever missed and will continue to be loved and cherished by her family, friends, and colleagues.
