Celebrating the Life of
May 15, 1934 — February 9, 2025
Shane Joseph Curtis, born on May 15, 1934, in Saint Louis, Missouri, passed away on February 9, 2025, in Columbia, Maryland, surrounded by the love of both of his children.
Shane proudly served his country in both the United States Navy and Army. Enlisting before the age of 18, he was recognized as a Veteran of Underage Military Service. He bravely served during the Korean War, demonstrating his deep commitment to his nation. His time in the military shaped his character and instilled in him a lifelong sense of duty and resilience.
A true thrill-seeker, Shane embraced life with a passion for adventure. He found joy in motorcycles, car racing, and skydiving. His enthusiasm for sports was unwavering, with football and NASCAR holding a special place in his heart. A dedicated car and motorcycle enthusiast, he appreciated the craftsmanship and exhilaration they brought. He turned this passion into a career, working as a sales representative for Kawasaki for several years and later serving as one of four sales representatives in the U.S. for Triumph Motorcycles for nearly two decades.
From 1986 to 2012, Shane owned and operated Michael’s Pub in Columbia, Maryland, where he built a welcoming community through his love of people and conversation. He cherished connecting with patrons, creating an atmosphere where friendships flourished and memories were made. His ability to bring people together made the pub a beloved gathering place for many over the years.
Shane is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce; daughter Linda (Jeff); son Craig (Cinnamon); grandchildren Amanda (Paul), Alicia, Kathryn, Olivia, and Summer; and great-grandchildren Aubrey and Will. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Curtis and Mildred A. Walters.
His adventurous spirit, sharp sense of humor, and love for Jimmy Buffett’s words—“I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead” or “ Wrinkles will only go where the smiles have been”—will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Shane’s memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gilchrist Howard Center at 11311 McCormick Rd., Suite 350, Hunt Valley, MD 21031 or online at gilchristcares.org/donate
