May 30, 1940 — January 26, 2024
Sandra Kay Sumislaski of Poway, CA passed away peacefully January 26, 2024 at her home surrounded by family. She was born May 30, 1940 to Evelyn and Archie Wescott in Woodstock, IL.
Sandy is survived by a sister, Sharon Malm, a brother Richard Wescott, her children, Randy Knutson, Renee Jacobs, Sue (Jim) Bullock and Ed Powers. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa, Crystal, Scott, Corinne, Rachel and her 11 great-grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, Stanley Sumislaski, and her siblings, Beverly, Lolly, Roger, Wayne, Francis, Leola, and Jean.
Sandy moved to sunny California 50 years ago from Illinois and loved her California life. She’s had a variety of jobs, but her favorite was volunteering in the kitchen at the Poway VFW during her retirement.
Sandy was a hard worker, generous friend, loving mother and grandmother. She was a fantastic caregiver to her friends and family if they needed her help. She enjoyed cooking, crosswords, her dog (Cali), sewing and fishing. She’s still in the record books for catching one of California’s largest large mouth bass.
She will be missed.
Thank you to Flo, Catalina, Dr. Merke and the entire team at Elizabeth Hospice for their support during this difficult time.
There will be a celebration of life planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sandy’s name to Poway VFW or Elizabeth Hospice.
Please share a photo or video, or post a heartfelt condolence to the family.

I loved her so much. She asked me to move in with her so we could be like the golden girls. I also was her maid of honor when she and Ski got married. She said we needed to break him out of the nursing home. That’s what we did. I’ll miss her!!
