DOÑA SARI'S OBITUARY
Rosaura Perez Rivera also known as “Sari” was born on August 1, 1930 in Salinas, Puerto Rico. She was one of 4 children born to Anna Maria Rivera and Juan Perez. Seeking opportunity beyond what their native home had to offer, her family joined the earliest mass migration of Puerto Ricans to New York during the early 1940’s.
There, she began honing her various creative expressions at the Central Academy of Beauty Culture & the Bethlehem Art Studio in N.Y., and then later on in life at the College of the Virgin Islands and the Escuela de Artes Plasticas in San Juan, PR. She was a successful business owner, an award-winning hair stylist, a master painter, and among her close friends and family, she was regarded as a culinary expert. Rosaura was motivated by love of family, her culture, and nature. She walked with power grace and elegance. She embodied kindness, authenticity and generosity. Her presence was always vibrant, youthfull and inspiring. She was loved and cherished by many.
On April 5, 2023, at the age of 92, surrounded by her family, Rosaura transitioned to the Ancestral realm. She was preceded in death by her parents Anna Maria Rivera and Juan Perez, her husband Guy B. Stiles, and her siblings Eulalia Perez Rivera, Victor Perez Rivera, and Pedro Perez Rivera.
Surviving her are her siblings Charles and Antonio Perez Rivera; her daughters, Alma and Maria Stiles, her granddaughter Nia Jackson, and her grandson Anai Browne. She is also survived by her nieces, and nephews: Frank Perez, Victor Perez, Gary Diaz, Richard Diaz, John Perez, Antonio Perez, Antonio Reyes Perez, Mark Perez, Annette Perez, Sophia Perez, Nancy Perez Gonzalez, Melissa Rivera Diaz, Lisa Perez, and Pricilla Perez; along with many other family members, friends, and extended family who cherished her and loved her dearly.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude and thanks for the outpouring of love and condolences during this difficult time. The family will host an Art Exhibit in honor of Sari’s life and legacy in November 2023, with the details to be announced at a later date.
