Celebrating the Life of
March 25, 1932 — February 1, 2024
Robert Lee Cannon Sr., 91, of Spring, Texas, passed away on February 1, 2024. He was born on March 25, 1932, in Houston, Texas. Robert, known as Bob, was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Bob had a heart of gold and a deep love for children. He referred to them as his "bus kids" and would buy them Christmas presents throughout the year. If he saw a child in need, Bob made sure they had what they required, even if their parents couldn't provide it. He extended his compassion to stray animals as well, keeping a large patio bin full of cat food to feed the cats, raccoons, and opossums that frequented his house. His neighbor's dogs would always stop by to say hello to "Bob" during their walks. He was adored by all.
Bob had a dry sense of humor that often left people guessing if he was serious or joking. Many were puzzled about his occupation, as he would humorously claim to be a train engineer for Union Pacific. However, his true passion was welding. He dedicated 28 years of his life to Texas Instruments as a welder before retiring in 1992. He then worked as a special needs bus driver for Klein ISD until 2023.
In addition to his career, Bob served in the Army as part of the 82nd Airborne from 1950 to 1953. He was proud of his military service and the camaraderie he shared with his fellow soldiers.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Wanda Miller; sons, Robert Lee Jr. and Christopher; step-daughter, Barbara (Babs) Robicheaux; grandchildren, Andrea Coan and Michael Cannon; and great-grandson, Jack Thomas Coan. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Uhlig Cannon second wife Gertrud Barker, and daughter, Deborah Lynn Jackson.
A Honor Guard Memorial service will be held on February 14, 2024, 1:30 PM at Houston National Cemetery, Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX. Contributions in Bob's memory can be made to Depelchin Children's Center in Houston, TX.
The Neptune Society in Houston, TX, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
