Celebrating the Life of
January 16, 1959 — September 15, 2024
Peter John Boyle Jr., affectionately known as Petey, passed away on Sunday, September 15th, 2024, at the age of 65. A beloved father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Pete was born on January 16, 1959, to the late Peter Boyle Sr. and Margaret Boyle of Dayton, Ohio.
Pete was a 1978 graduate of Archbishop Alter High School, where he excelled in basketball. As one of the tri-captains, alongside his teammates Don Meineke and Dan Bockhorn, Pete helped lead Alter to a State Championship victory that year—a highlight of his athletic career. His love of basketball took him to Jacksonville University in Florida, where he continued to play at the collegiate level.
Basketball is deeply rooted in the Boyle family. Pete’s father played for the University of Dayton Flyers, and Pete proudly continued that legacy, sharing a deep love for the sport with his son, Tony. The Boyle basketball tradition remains strong as Tony played basketball as an Alter Knight and continues to cheer on the Dayton Flyers, just as his father and grandfather did.
Beyond basketball, Pete built a longstanding career with Victory Wholesale Group, where he rose from a forklift operator to a freight supervisor and driver trainer. Pete later went on to manage The Dayton Gym Club. Outside of work, Pete spent many years on the golf course or cruising the Ohio River on his beloved boat, Teacher’s Pet. Some of his happiest moments were spent on the water with family and friends.
Pete is survived by his son, Tony (Sydney) of Centerville, OH; his former wife, Cathy of Kettering, OH; his siblings, Karen of Centerville, OH, Kathy Geiger (Kenny O’Connell) of Cincinnati, OH, Dan (Beth) of Alpharetta, GA, and Kevin (Michelle) of Charlotte, NC; his nephews and niece, Luke, Sean, and Jill; as well as many beloved cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Margaret Boyle. His family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace, reunited with his mom and dad.
Pete’s final wishes were to donate his body to the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Anatomical Gift Program for educational purposes. This contribution will help future medical professionals gain invaluable experience. If desired, memorial donations may be made in Pete’s honor to the Archbishop Alter High School Men’s Basketball Program (www.alterhs.org/make-a-gift). A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at a later date, with details to follow. Our family deeply appreciates your prayers and support during this time.
