Celebrating the Life of
February 15, 1960 — November 3, 2024
We are gathered to celebrate the life and love of Paula Jean Byers who passed away at her home in Virginia Beach, Virginia on November 3, 2024. Paula was born on February 15, 1960 to Eleanor O’Neill Byers and William Alfred Byers, Jr. in Burlington County, New Jersey. Paula attended Riverside High School, NJ, and Woodlawn High School, MD, where she graduated in class of 1978.
She was a devoted mother to her son, Nicholas Byers, and a proud grandmother (Grandma La-La) to her grandson, Axel Byers.
Paula was known for her many hobbies including painting, writing, and music. She had a deep connection with God and nature. Her love of animals was well-known in the community, and she cared for numerous pets and horses including her dog Taz. Despite Paula’s hobbies and interests, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and creating cherished memories.
Paula found eternal peace alongside her mother Eleanor O’Neill Byers, father William Alfred Byers Jr, sister Judy Byers, brother-in-law Gary Welkner, and her dog Franky.
Paula will be dearly missed by her son, grandson, sisters: Chris, Cathi, and Lynn; nephews Billy and Ryan, nieces Katie and Julie, brother-in-law John, daughter-in-law Jessica, as well as many other family members and friends.
While she was still with us, Paula prepared many journals for her family and filled them with all of her life stories, favorite poems, and quotes. She will be remembered for her fun-loving soul, and her words and lessons will always be with us.
Please join us to celebrate Paula’s vibrant life at Munden Point Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Saturday, November 23rd at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests donations be made to the local animal shelters in Paula’s memory.

That time Paula bought an inflatable bunny costume for Axels first Easter, it was so funny!! She just walked out of the room and a few minutes later walked back in wearing that costume without telling anyone LOL I’m really going to miss her goofy sense of humor. 💜

This was last Christmas (2023) when Paula was doing Holiday photos with the pony at Doodle Doo Farms. She was so excited to show Axel the pony!

One of my favorite pictures of Grandma La-La and Axel (her grandson.) 💜
