Celebrating the Life of
April 29, 1969 — December 4, 2023
On December 4, 2023, Paul Hernandez Benavidez, known to all as “Spider” departed this life for his next adventure at the young age of 54. Although born in Merced, California he was proud to call San Diego his home.
Paul will be deeply missed by his parents, Maria Louisa (Gary) Cornaglia and Paul Alonzo (Eneida) Benavidez; his sons, Paul Michael (Wenda) Benavidez and Alexander Jerry (Jenny) Finnegan; and his grandkids Pierce, Jax, Sophia, Leticia, and Devin. He also leaves behind his siblings Ronnie, Roxanne (Michael), Renee (Eric), and Aaron, and his girlfriend, Maria Ramirez.
In his professional life, Paul was a revered Business Analyst at UCSD Health. He loved diving into the latest gadgets and solving complex problems. He was the family’s go-to tech expert in the family, as well as a trusted consultant.
Paul was a dedicated Raiders fan through and through, and you’d often find him draped in his team’s colors. His music collection was legendary, spanning all kinds of genres and eras. His tattoos told stories of his life, especially his love for his kids and grandkids. And he held a special place in his heart for his feathered friend, Opi –who will greatly miss his presence.
His sense of humor was unforgettable. Spider’s laughter and the unique nicknames he had for everyone will never be forgotten.
We are planning a casual gathering to celebrate Spider’s life – details to come soon.
Paul’s memory will always bring a smile to our faces. He will be greatly missed, but the stories, laughs, and love he left behind will always be with us.
Please share a photo or video, or post a heartfelt condolence to the family.
