Celebrating the Life of
October 22, 1958 — June 3, 2024
Oscar René Dueñas “Abuelito,” 65, of New Braunfels, loving husband to Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Dueñas, went to be with the Lord on June 3rd, 2024, after an eight-year battle with cancer.
Oscar Dueñas was born in Apatzingán, Michoacan on October 22, 1958, to María De Jesus Cruz de Dueñas and Filomeno Armando Dueñas Ruiz. He graduated from Fox Tech High School in San Antonio where he was a proud member of the ROTC Rifle Team.
Oscar was full of wisdom and experience. He was fun-loving, adventurous, and fearless. He was a devoted father who coached his sons’ teams and took them camping and fishing.
Throughout his life he worked at Bill Miller BBQ, HEB, and Artisan’s Designs. Since 2004, he was able to fulfil his entrepreneurial dreams as he and Beth owned and operated Dancing Bear and Gruene Gardens, Treehaus Gifts and The Nest.
Oscar loved his wife tremendously. He loved Jesus, his sons, his grandchildren and his extended family and friends. He loved being outdoors, and especially loved grilling and having the entire family together. He loved taking pictures (selfies with Beth, food pics, and of his grandchildren and those he loved). He was passionate about knowledge and reading and would spend many nights competing in Jeopardy from his living room couch. He was an accomplished marksman and loved sharing his knowledge of firearms with his sons. He loved the ocean and loved to fish.
He is survived by his wife, Beth, and three sons: Anthony René [Rachel] Dueñas, Oscar Michael [Jessica] Dueñas, and Adrian Alejandro Dueñas. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Rebecca, Emma, Natalie, Liam, Adrienne, Sofia, Molly, Eli, and Olivia of San Antonio and McKinney.
Oscar is also survived by his siblings: Cristina Elias, Marco Antonio, Dalila Dueñas, Adolfo [Alma] Dueñas, Elizabeth Dueñas, Javier Dueñas and siblings-in-law: Rosie Birdwell [Don], Patty Holmes, and Mary Holmes. He is also survived by his stepsons: James [Kayla] Fuselier and Jesse Fuselier. He also leaves behind numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, cousins, and countless friends he considered as family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Filomeno Armando Dueñas, and Maria de Jesus Cruz de Dueñas, stepson Randy Fuselier Jr., Aunt Enriqueta de la Cruz Montés, Mother and Father-in-Law Myrtle and Jesse Holmes, and brother-in-law JW Holmes.
Through storms and hardships, Oscar always kept his faith and spirit in God. He can be described as courageous, caring, generous, and an inspiration to many. He was extremely outgoing and quick with a joke (however corny it was). He was loyal, and present for all at many times throughout his life. He was the type of man that would walk hundreds of miles for enduring faith and promises. He was a fighter. Never during his battle with cancer did he give up or give in. He was remarkable and loved by many.
Oscar was an incredible man that touched many people’s lives through his words, actions, and above all his love. He will be missed. PÓNGALE
