Celebrating the Life of
December 6, 1928 — September 9, 2023
Our family lost Orlando Nicolas Vera on September 9, 2023, at the age of 94 years old in Whittier, CA. Orlando was an incredible advocate for humanity and inspired hope, resiliency, love and forgiveness. He will be missed by those that know him, especially our family and extended Cuban community that he loved. He loved America, his home after fleeing communism and oppression in Cuba in 1967. However, part of his heart remained with his past life in Manzanillo, Cuba. Orlando advocated with love, support and non-judgment, and he passed the same way he lived life, in peace and harmony. A true Notebook story, he proclaimed his love for his wife, Dolores Maria Verdecia, for 70+ years until his last breath and told her before passing that he would take care of her. He also leaves to cherish his memory three children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Our family appreciates all of the support and condolences - we appreciate any words, memories, pictures, or videos that you can share for our family to have as a keepsake.

I forgot how beautiful they looked.

In the beginning!

Advocate for Humanity!
I got to know Orlando through family celebrations, I was always met with that great “smile” that he always had. Our visits were few, but he always greeted me with kindness , love and was genuine it asking me how I was doing. He raised his children with those same attributes. My dearest, loving condolences to the Vera family. May your loving memories fill the emptiness in your hearts, but those same memories will bring you love, joy and laughter to help you heal that void as time passes. Blessings now and always from Sandie Mendez’ mom, Dolores.
