Celebrating the Life of
October 7, 1978 — April 16, 2026
Nicholas (Nick, Nicky) Joseph Cammarata passed away unexpectedly on April 16, 2026. He was born to Michael and Melinda (Mindy) Cammarata on October 7, 1978, in Birmingham, Alabama. Weighing 10 lb, 3 oz, and 22 inches long, he excelled physically at an early age, swimming across the deep end of a pool at 2½, riding a bike (without training wheels) at 3, and playing soccer on an under 8 team at 4½. After excelling on several club and AAU basketball and soccer teams, he started John Carroll High School as a varsity player on both the basketball and soccer teams, and was a member of the High School Soccer State Championship Teams of ’94, ’96, ’97.
After graduation, he received a soccer scholarship to St. Bonaventure University in New York State. He returned to Birmingham after 2 years, receiving soccer scholarships to UAB and then Birmingham Southern before enlisting in the United States Navy. During this time he earned a Masters Degree in Finance, married, became a devoted stepfather to Kailey and Joshua Lamey, and fathered the love of his life, Sydnie Elizabeth Cammarata in 2006.
After an honorable discharge in 2007, Nick worked at careers in Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate, as well as managing several rental properties with his parents. He loved music, watching professional soccer, basketball, and football, gardening, playing Fantasy Football with his friends, as well as spending time with his daughter whenever possible. More recently he found his passion in writing, penning several essays and articles on subjects varying from aviation to electric cars to the environment, even recently publishing an ecological sci-fi novel entitled "The Bloom." He moved onto his brother, Tony’s property in Gadsden, Alabama to be near his family and had begun writing a second novel at the time of his death.
Nicholas was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, August and Helen Cammarata, maternal grandparents, Robert and Phyllis Barrett, and good friend, Matt Wilkey. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Sydnie, his former spouse, Maresa Cammarata, his step-children, Joshua and Kailey Lamey, parents Michael and Melinda Cammarata, brother Mikey Cammarata, brother Tony Cammarata (wife Holly and sons Gunner and Logan), sister Kate Cammarata (husband Josh Prados and daughters Quinn and Thea), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him dearly and will miss him tremendously.
