Mozart Menezes, a brilliant academic, fearless explorer, and deeply loving father, passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 62.
Mozart was born on October 10, 1962, in Belém, Brazil with a fierce curiosity and a scientific spirit that will never be forgotten. But he was equally a very loving father and dedicated family man.
Mozart was passionate about his career and contributing knowledge to the world. He was a distinguished scholar in operations and supply chain management, known for his impactful research across several leading institutions, including NEOMA Business School, KEDGE Business School, Zaragoza Logistics Center, HEC Paris, and the University of Calgary. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, with an accumulated over 1,100 citations, in the fields of operations management, supply chain design, and complexity science. His enthusiasm and passion for his research was also expressed through additional projects, such as his work with non-governmental organizations including Doctors without Borders (MSF).
Mozart’s intellect was matched only by his love for his family. He was a dedicated family man and always prioritized time with his wife and children. Throughout the family's travels through North America and Europe, they were always a very close unit and made many precious memories as a family. Mozart had a particular talent for creating memorable moments for his children, thanks to his wit and ability to laugh at himself. There was never a dull moment with him. In parallel, he was a great source of inspiration, an astute listener, and expert life counselor.
His family has created this memorial page to mark this sad occasion and invite you all to participate in his online memorial service, which will be organized into two separate events:
(1) June 15 at 5 pm in English
(2) June 15 at 2 pm in Portuguese

Mozart Menezes, um acadêmico brilhante, explorador, e pai profundamente carinhoso, faleceu no dia 8 de abril de 2025, aos 62 anos.
Mozart nasceu em 10 de outubro de 1962, em Belém, Brasil, com uma curiosidade feroz e um espírito científico que jamais serão esquecidos. Mas ele era igualmente um pai profundamente dedicado à sua família.
Mozart era apaixonado pela sua pesquisa e por contribuir novos conhecimentos ao mundo. Foi um pesquisador destacado nas áreas de operações, supply chain, e complexidade, conhecido por seu trabalho de impacto em várias instituições internacionais, incluindo NEOMA Business School, KEDGE Business School, Zaragoza Logistics Center, HEC Paris e a Universidade de Calgary. Ele publicou mais de 50 artigos, com mais de 1.100 citações acumuladas ao nivel mundial. Seu entusiasmo e paixão pelo seu trabalho também se expressavam em outros tipos de projetos, como seu trabalho com caridades, incluindo Médicos Sem Fronteiras (MSF).
A inteligência do Mozart só era comparável ao seu amor pela família. Ele era um homem extremamente dedicado à família e sempre priorizou estar presente com a esposa e os filhos. Durante as viagens da família pela América do Norte e Europa, eles sempre foram muito unidos e compartilharam juntos muitas memórias unicas. Mozart tinha um talento especial para criar momentos inesquecíveis para seus filhos, graças ao seu senso de humor e à sua habilidade de rir de si mesmo. Nunca havia um momento monótono com ele. Ao mesmo tempo, ele era uma grande fonte de inspiração, um ouvinte atento e um conselheiro de vida excepcional.

This photo was of Amboise. André was very close to Mozart and came to visit the family everywhere we moved over the years: Canada, France, Spain... I’m so sorry for your loss. I have to admit that Mozart passing was the furthest thing I could imagine that I didn’t believe it was real. My memories of Mozart are always about his graciousness and making me feel welcome at every interaction. I remember being at his apartment in Zaragoza in 2008 when Spain won the European championship and then celebrating in the streets with your family. Then later in 2010 when he invited me to teach a summer class in Italy and again several years later when he showed us around Bordeaux one summer. He had such a joy for life. It was years later when we finally actually collaborated in research, which was also a pleasure to experience his deep desire to understand and to share his knowledge. Again, I am very sorry for your loss. I know his memory will live on in all the ways that he touched everyone around him and through the way he shaped his family into the the kind and wonderful people that you are.
Dear Roberta, Sending my love on the passing of your dad. I am here for whatever may help you and, until then, i'll be thinking of you. Losing a parent is not something you "get over", so I hope your boys help bring you peace in your grief. There is a quote from Winnie the Pooh about being "lucky to have something that makes saying bye so hard", which really applies to the loving father Mozart was, and he will be so very missed.
Dear Rosy, Robbie, Ville and Matheus, We are all thinking of you at this extremely difficult time. The strength you are all showing at the moment is all a testament to the incredible man Mozart was, and the wonderful loving family him and Rosy have created. He will be so proud of the courage you have shown. The light he shone on this world is too bright to ever be dimmed.
I am writing to express my great sadness at the news of Mozart’s death. I did not know him for very long, but I worked with him before he joined NEOMA on an EU grant application. I liked him very much as he was always friendly, and a complete pleasure to work with. He was also very appreciative for anything that someone did for him. I saw that he put a huge amount into his work for the School and effectively acted as a mentor to many of his younger colleagues. He spoke out if he saw something as being unfair and had a super sense of humour. I was very shocked to hear that he had been ill for a long time – he bore that illness very bravely. He will be much missed by me and everyone who came into contact with him at the School, but I know the pain of his loss for you and your family will be infinitely worse. My sympathies are with you all.
