Melvin Leigh Johnston, age 88, of Moyock, NC went to live with his Lord Jesus in Heaven on April 16, 2024.
Melvin was born on March 11, 1936 in Norfolk, VA to the late Orion Lenox Johnston and Bessie Belle Powers Evans. He was a loving, affectionate and caring father, and the best Papaw. He loved his family, he loved Jesus, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was humble and compassionate with a big heart for others and had an unforgettable smile.
Melvin was a lifelong Moyockian, except for the two years he spent at N. C. State earning his Associate Degree in Applied Agriculture. Primarily, Melvin was a farmer and spent the majority of his career as working at Garrett & Evans Farms. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family.
Melvin is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Ann Evans and Michelle Leigh Perry (Alex); his cherished granddaughters, Riley Grace Perry, Karen Elleyse Clemmons, and Elise Hope Elkins; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who were like family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Clinton Mitchell Johnston, his brother, Roy G. Johnston, Sr. and his nephew, Roy G. Johnston, Jr.
