Hello to all of Matt's family and friends, On June 26, 2024, this world unfortunately lost a wonderful man. He is greatly missed each and everyday. Please join the Castaneda family and myself for a Celebration of Life dedicated to Matt. UPDATE: A location has been booked. For Matt, we will congregate at The Mainstream in Poway. It's a location the Castaneda's are fond, with a wonderful atmosphere and food/drinks. For those who would like to raise a drink and toast him, there will be opportunities to speak. Matt loved his family and friends so much and we hope you can make his Celebration of Life. If you intend to join, please RSVP so we have an accurate count for the restaurant. Please feel free to add some of your favorite photos of Matt to this page, or leave loving comments. As many of you know, Matt was a huge animal lover. In lieu of flowers, you can donate to the San Diego Humane Society in his name. The link is attached below and click on "DONATE" at the top of the page.

Matt, I was so sad to hear that you’re no longer with us. Though I haven’t seen you in awhile, I can still remember all the good times we had together. Every time we hung out it was a party. You were always such a cool dude and as the picture shows, you wore Miami Vice well! RIP brother 🤙

Matt was a close friend of mine for a phase of life I needed him in. He was always there for a helping hand or a lending ear to vent too about your problems, he offered positive feedback always. He was great at making people laugh and feel accepted. My heart goes out to his family and his beautiful girlfriend Rebecca. May time provide you all peace.
My husband and I first met Matt when he and Rebecca came to dinner at our home. Our oldest daughter, Ann Rachel, and my son- in-law, Dan, also joined us to meet Matt. After dinner we all played a game called Blank Slate. Matt won; in fact, soundly beat all of us. He was very competitive, gracious and humble in his win, and thought that he just was lucky to have won that evening. It helped make Matt endearing to all of us, as he fit in well with our competitive but fun-loving family. I am beyond saddened that the darkness that existed in Matt’s heart and mind drew him down and prevented him from seeing how much he was loved by Rebecca, his family, and his friends. I will miss you, Matt. Rebecca deeply grieves, but I am hopeful that the light and contentment you were seeking now will be realized. Rest in peace now,Matt, and know you will not be forgotten. Love, Jane

The best part of collaborating with Matty on paintings was that he'd turn my mediocre work into a masterpiece. I still have one standing in my office.

The day he adopted Mikey

He sure cherished Tina's boys!
