Celebrating the Life of
February 22, 1995 — April 7, 2024
Marlina (Nina) Monica Batts, beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on April 7, 2024. She was 29 years old.
Born on February 22, 1995, in Attleboro, Massachusetts, Nina was the third child of Chhoeurn and Veronica Ku. She spent her formative years in Wilson, North Carolina, where she graduated from Hunt High School. She continued her education at East Carolina University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Communications.
On June 2, 2018, Nina married her high school sweetheart and soulmate, Auston Batts. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Nina pursued her passions as a photographer, podcaster, and social media enthusiast, leaving an indelible mark on those she encountered.
Nina had an infectious love for life, expressed through her passion for dancing and her unwavering enthusiasm for basketball. However, her most profound joy came from being a devoted mother to her three beautiful children, Isaiah, Maliyah, and Aubrey. She found purpose and fulfillment in nurturing her family and creating a loving home alongside her adoring husband, Auston.
A woman of profound faith, Nina's relationship with Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her life. Throughout her courageous battle with cancer, she leaned on her faith for strength and comfort, inspiring all who knew her with her unwavering trust in God's plan. Nina's kindness, loyalty, and quick wit endeared her to countless friends and family members, leaving an unforgettable legacy of love and laughter.
Nina is survived by her devoted husband, David Auston Batts; her beloved children, Isaiah, Maliyah, and Aubrey; her mother, Veronica Ku, and partner Scott Jolicoeur; her father, Chhoeurn Ku; her grandmother Sim By; her older brother, Ravarath Ros, and his wife Alexandra, his child Kai; her older sister, Emily Roellke (Ros), and her husband James her children Tyson, Jasmine, Amiley and Juliana; her father-in-law, David(Dave) Batts; her mother-in-law, Aimee Henderson and Mike(step-father-in-law) Henderson; siblings, Nathan, Mickey, Kate, and Sarah; Grandparents, Marvin & Lynn Batts, David & Candy McAnelly, Rene Henderson & Charlie Pakage; and her extended family members and friends.
In her memory, let us hold fast to Nina's favorite verse, Psalm 91:4 (NLT): "He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection."
Nina's light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, forever surrounded by the love of her Heavenly Father.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service for family at a later date. Please take the opportunity to share your memories and condolences on the memorial page.
Please share a photo or video, or post a heartfelt condolence to the family.
Nina, I’m so sorry you weren’t able to spend longer on this earth. We “met” early on a mom’s app and clicked right away. We bonded over both recently moving to Savannah and our love of the UFC. Your sweetness, graciousness and positivity are something to be admired. I’m heartbroken for your babies and send my biggest condolences to your family and extended family. Rest easy Nina xx

With love and sympathy, Jean

In January Nina’s mother-in-law (my older sister Aimee ) , my younger sister (Alycia) and my mom (Candy) planned a girls’ weekend with Nina. We enjoyed brunch, spa treatments and the movies. Nina’s energy level seemed to increase as the day went along which would normally be unusual due to her illness. It was such a blessing to see her enjoy herself and laugh a lot! I’m so grateful for those memories. Nina has a beautiful soul! I can’t wait to reunite with her again one day! I love you Nina and am so thankful that Auston brought you into our family!

It was so special that the same year Isaiah was born, my daughter was born! How often do you get to experience pregnancy at the same time as your Niece-in-law does!? That was such a fun experience to share.

Thanksgiving 2023! Auston and Nina opened their home for the family to celebrate the holiday together. This was such a special day because it had been a year since her diagnosis. Us girls decided to pose for a photo together and of course we wanted Nina to be the center of attention . My sisters and mom adored her so much!

Marlina took this photo of my family and it is one of my favorites! She was a talented photographer, a great friend and an amazing human being. She will be greatly missed. Thank you Marlina for all the joy you brought to life!
I did not get the pleasure of meeting such a lovely woman. I did however, meet her kind husband through work. He spoke highly of his sweet family and loving wife. My prayers are with Auston, their children and all of their family. With deepest sympathy.

Vacation 2019

Aunt/cousin Nina has been huge a blessing in each of our babies lives. Nina always made a point to have a relationship with them and time for them. Her impact in their lives will forever make them stronger because of that. Here is Abigail and Addison doing one of their favorite things snuggling their Nina.
Sadly, I did not know Nina personally, but her grandmother-in-love Candy is a faithful & adored client of my salon in New Bern, NC. Candy has always shared with us her love for her family, as well as Nina’s journey. As a month of a 4 year old myself, Nina has always been heavy on my heart, and I have prayed for her and her family since Candy shared her story with me. It is so apparent that her faith in God and love for life was incredible. Her memory will carry on through generations and generations because of the beautiful legacy of faith, love and courage that she created. I am continuing to pray for peace over Nina’s family and friends.
