A Mass of Christian Burial for Mario Badillo, 60, of Lubbock, will be at 10:00 a.m. on May 11, 2024, at Mission San Jose Catholic Church, with Father Jerry Kenny officiating. His family will receive friends on Thursday, May 8, at Sunset North Funeral Home Chapel starting at 6:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mario passed away on May 6, 2024, at his home.
Mario was born on September 22, 1964, in Lubbock to Trinidad and Juanita (Cruz) Badillo. He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1983 and went on to attend TSTI in San Marcos. He married the love of his life, Thelma Martinez, on July 2, 1988. Mario was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for 31 years. He served faithfully and volunteered countless hours of his time. Mario was also a long-time member of the Boy Scouts of San Antonio, where he served as a pack leader. His favorite pastimes included fishing, bowling, baseball, and football (always backing and cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys).
Mario’s prior employment was as a paint contractor, where he co-owned T&M Painting with his father until retirement.
Mario was preceded in death by his father, Trinidad, and brother Tomas.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 42 years. Thelma Badillo of Brownsville, sons Mario E. Badillo and Alejandro E. Badillo of San Antonio; his mother Juanita Badillo of Lubbock; sisters Maria Iruegas of Lubbock and Hilda Torres (Jesus); 7 nieces and nephews and 8 grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
