Marilyn Leilani Kimbrough (Palomares), 61, of Checotah, OK, passed away peacefully at home on April 9, 2023 after a battle with terminal brain cancer.
Marilyn was born on May 3, 1961 to Ed and Erika Palomares at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, CA. Marilyn was a newborn when the family moved to Mannheim, Germany until 1963 when her father was transferred to Fort Ord, CA. She was raised in the small coastal town of Marina, CA. on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula.
She graduated from Seaside High school in 1979. After living 33 years on the Monterey Peninsula, Marilyn moved to Oklahoma in 1996. She was employed for 23 years with Armstrong Bank. Marilyn has two children, Air Force Lt. Travis Sumpter and Logan Kimbrough. Marilyn’s passion for the Lord and love for her family and friends is what mattered most in her life. She loved to cook and was most known for her cheesecakes and fried pies. Marilyn liked to workout with friends and had an adventurous spirit, never afraid to try something new. Marilyn’s favorite life role was being grandmother of five wonderful darlings.
Marilyn was predeceased by her mother Erika Palomares
(Berghauser). She is survived by her father Ed Palomares of Checotah, OK. and her siblings Edward M. Palomares of Bixby, OK,
Terri L.Tate of Marina, CA. and David Palomares of Jalisco, Mexico.
Her son Travis and his wife Wendy are stationed at Hurlburt Field and reside in Navarre, FL. with their four children. Logan resides with his father Tom Kimbrough in Checotah, OK., and a stepdaughter Lorrie Ragsdale (Kimbrough) and granddaughter Allie live near Eufuala, OK.
Marilyn is also proud Aunt to 11 nieces and nephews that reside in California and Texas.
A Celebration of Life Memorial for Marilyn will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 2 PM at
First Free Will Baptist Church
713 N. Broadway in Checotah, OK.
Pastor Mark Shores and Pastor Derek Hanson will officiate.
