Marilyn was born June 8, 1949, in Celina, Ohio, to the late Roman and Mildred (Davis) Hausfeld. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert, sister Patricia Clough, and brother-in-law David Hissong. She leaves behind a large family whom she loved dearly. This includes her two children: Joel (Ashley) Ferguson and Ellie De Marchis, both of Centerville; and five grandchildren: Brooke, Kelly and Thomas Ferguson; and Gino and Adriana De Marchis. She is also survived by five siblings: Martha (Dave) Bechtel, Theresa (PJ) Garlock, Joseph Hausfeld, Joannie (Jan) Kentner, and Annie (Michael) Bollheimer. Marilyn graduated from Marion Local High School in 1967. She then obtained a nursing degree from Good Samaritan College of Nursing in Dayton. After graduating in 1970, she began her career specializing in psychiatric care. After fifteen years of nursing, Marilyn found her true calling as an elementary school teacher. She retired from Middletown City Schools in 2018, after a fulfilling career with much recognition. Marilyn had a passion for life and lived in the moment. She spent her free time with family and her two loving pets, Buckeye and Ruthie. She was an avid gardener and loved nature. She will be remembered for her hilarious sense of humor, giant heart and gentle caregiving. Everyone who met Marilyn appreciated her energy, quick wit, kindness and generosity. Even in death, she continued her loving ways by donating her body to the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. Marilyn filled the room like a ray of sunshine and will be deeply missed.

Lunch in Yellow Springs August 2022

We took an annual trip to Hocking Hills with Mom, this is me, Joel & Mom in Ash Cave, 2021.
I got to know Marilyn while teaching together at Mayfield and one summer Marilyn and I were partnered together to teach summer school. Marilyn always had an awesome sense of humor. She was never boastful about herself, instead she was a genuine caring and loving person. Marilyn was taken way too soon, but her laughter, warm smile and beautiful heart will still always be with me and those she touched.
Marilyn and I worked together at Oneida. She was just a fun and energetic person, who was loved by both staff and students. I feel very lucky to have had the chance to have her as part of my life.
Mrs. Hart was my 6th grade teacher at Oneida Elementary back in year 2000. She was sweet, caring and loving to all of her students. She will be deeply missed.
Marilyn was a wonderful friend and neighbor here on our corner of the condo. I enjoyed talking with her when we walked our dogs. She was always happy and upbeat. Thinking of you always.
Marilyn was a very kind and compassionate teacher. I enjoyed time spent with her at district math meetings. She continuously worked to improve her craft. I am deeply saddened to hear of her passing.
Joel, Ellie, and Hausfeld Family, Marilyn & I have been friends since grade school and were roommates at Good Sam. So many wonderful memories attending Marion Local, going to dances and bars in Mercer County. Marilyn kept everyone laughing with jokes, pranks, and fun. We continued our friendship through the years, still laughed lots as we grew older. So fortunate to have Marilyn in my life. Goodbye my friend. Margie Riethman Ozbun
Joel, and Ellie, Although we didn’t see Marilyn often in recent years, the time spent with her, and Max, on the farm will always be some of our favorite memories. She always held her head high, and faced adversity with a positive, and ‘ true grit’ attitude. Her motto…a good belly laugh, and sense of humor is still the best medicine. I will continue to keep Marilyn in my happy memories, and when faced with adversity, ask myself..”what would Marilyn do?” She would forge on, with courage and integrity. Rest in peace dear friend, Randy and Cindy Grapner
Marilyn was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. I got to work with her for many years at Mayfield and she was always the same, upbeat, happy, patient and kind. She will be missed.
Marilyn was such a sweet soul with a heart of gold. She was so genuine. I will always cherish our time together teaching 5th grade at Mayfield Elementary. She was so dedicated to her profession. I loved her sense of humor and carefree spirit. She cherished our friendship and I will always do the same. I will miss you my friend. Rest well, Marilyn.
Marilyn was one of a kind. I will miss her dearly. She was always quick to extend an invitation. Her laughter and smile were contagious. To be known by Marilyn was to be loved by her. The world lost an incredible and unique woman. Thank you for the gift of knowing and loving you, Marilyn. God bless the family and all who loved her ♥️
