Celebrating the Life of
January 22, 1937 — January 21, 2025
On January 21, 2025, hours before her 88th birthday, Heaven welcomed Home one of its most “good and faithful servants.” Madge (Hitchcock) Blair was born in Win, Kentucky in the winter of 1937 to Estill and Opal (Phelphry) Hitchcock. She was preceded in death by both her mother and father, her step-mother Ethel (Cantrell) Hitchcock; and also, her brothers Paul Raymond and Cecil Hitchcock.
Madge married her first love Basil Blair, on May 17, 1953; and, together they had 3 daughters: Melinda Sue (b/d 8/30/1955), Judy Carol, and Karen Elaine. After death separated Basil and Madge in 2001, she was blessed with a second love, and married Samuel Damron in 2003, joining both their families in love and friendship. Madge always expressed a deep love and appreciation for the kindness and support of Sam's family. “Sambo” preceded Madge in death in 2015.
She was a hardworking, dedicated, giving woman who walked through her life with dignity and compassion. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great (and great-great!) grandmother - the root of our family, our matriarch. Madge lived an absolutely extraordinary life of faith, friendship, and family. She left a legacy of selfless love and goodness for all those who had the honor of knowing her.
Sister Madge was converted at Oil Springs United Baptist Church on February 13, 1953. She was baptized on February 19, 1953, at Bethel United Baptist Church at the hands of Elder Lonzie Reed, a man she “loved in the Lord.”
Sister Madge was a cherished member of Beaver Valley Church. Her relationship with the Lord wasn’t just a part of her life, it was a constant presence. She trusted in God’s promises, and her life was a living testimony to His grace, goodness, and gentleness. Sister Madge found peace in every beautiful hymn she sang, prayer she prayed, and soul she helped bring closer to Salvation. Her faith wasn’t something she just believed - it was something she lived everyday.
She is survived by her sister Lina (Hitchcock) Mahan, of Paintsville, Kentucky; daughters Judy (Blair) Driscoll and Karen (Blair) Logan, both of Findlay, Ohio; five grandchildren: Candace (Driscoll) Rau (Josh), Christopher Driscoll (Catherine), Colin Logan (Heather), Caitlin (Logan) Lowery (Mason), and Brennan Logan; fifteen great grandchildren (preceded in death by Katie Cox on 9/01/2024), and five great-great grandchildren who will carry her memory and legacy.
Both the viewing and funeral for Sister Madge Blair will be at Mary Chapel United Baptist Church, in Waverly, Ohio. The viewing is on January 31, from 5-8 pm, and her funeral will be Feb 1, at 1 pm. The graveside service at Evergreen Union Cemetery (Bridge St. location in Waverly), and then dinner back at the church hall to follow.
The family welcomes flowers, as they were one of Madge’s joys in life. Please send flower donations to Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly Ohio.
