Lisa Black

Lisa Lynn Black (Stratton, Marchman) passed away peacefully at her home in Dallas, Georgia, on December 30, 2024, at the age of 62.

Lisa was born on March 6, 1962, in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, to Betty and Sherman Stratton. In 1966, her family relocated to Georgia, where she attended Fair Oaks Elementary School and the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf before graduating from Sprayberry High School in Marietta as part of the Class of 1981.

In the late 1990s, Lisa met her husband, Thomas (Tom) Jack Black, Jr., through mutual friends. The two were married on March 27, 1999, and built a life together in Georgia. They welcomed their son, Jacob Thomas Black, on June 17, 2000, while living in Mableton. The family later moved to Powder Springs before settling in Dallas.

Lisa was a devout and active member of the Deaf Baptist Church in Smyrna, Georgia, and Southern Deaf Fellowship in McDonald, Tennessee. Her faith was central to her life, and she found great joy in biblical study and fellowship. Lisa also loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, shopping, and caring for animals. Over the years, she shared her home with many beloved pets and had a special bond with her cat, Thunder. She was known for her kindness toward stray animals in her neighborhood.

Lisa is survived by her mother, Betty Gluckman; her loving husband of 25 years, Tom Black; her son, Jacob Black; two stepdaughters, Anna Rose Johnson and Laura (Jennifer) Roach; and siblings Ken Stratton, Cody Stratton, Tiffany Gluckman, and Callie Little.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on February 15, 2025 (time TBD), at Deaf Baptist Church: 3000 Jonquil Drive SE, Smyrna, Georgia. A potluck reception will follow the service. Lisa will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she touched.
