Celebrating the Life of
June 16, 1944 — February 18, 2021
Lilly "Pidegi" Thompson Nicholas, affectionately known as “Pidegi,” aged 76, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, passed from this life on February 18, 2021. Born on June 16, 1944, in Los Angeles, California, Lilly was the daughter of Anna Thompson and carried with her the strength and love instilled during her upbringing.
Known for her giving nature and unwavering support, Lilly was an anchor to her family, particularly her children whom she raised with immense love and dedication. Her guidance was a compass for her sons, whom she taught to value hard work and responsibility from a tender age. Lilly's presence was a bastion of safety and comfort; her children knew that as night fell, the warmth of their home was just within reach.
The matriarch of her family, Lilly navigated the complexities of single parenthood with grace after her marriage with Samuel McGill Jr. dissolved. Her home was a sanctuary, governed by gentle words and unconditional love. Through challenging times, Lilly's resilience and ingenuity were the sails that steered her family to calmer waters.
Lilly leaves behind a legacy of love in her children, Anthony, Pauline, and Nicholas McGill, as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry her spirit forward. She was predeceased by her former husband Samuel McGill Jr. her children's father, her mother Anna Thompson, her brother John Nicholas, and her grandson Eric Miller McGill.
Her formal education was limited due to familial responsibilities and life's itinerant paths, yet her wisdom knew no bounds. With a diligent hand and a nurturing spirit, Lilly taught her children at home, filling the gap where traditional schooling was not a choice, but a huge investment that reflected her deepest values.
Lilly possessed a versatile skill set, having worked as a seamstress and factory worker, yet it was in her role as a homemaker that she found her true calling. Her lessons extended beyond academics, imparting life skills and a moral compass that would guide her children through the complexities of the world.
While not a regular churchgoer, Lilly found meaning in spiritual observance during significant times of the year. Her faith was a personal journey, one which she honored in her own reflective manner.
Lilly's hobbies, including baking, crafting, and sewing, were a testament to her artistic flair and her ability to create beauty in the everyday. These pastimes were a source of joy not only to her but also to those who were fortunate enough to experience her creations.
The family has entrusted the final arrangements to George J Peterson Funeral Home, Bridgeport, Connecticut, where Lilly's life will be celebrated and remembered with love and respect.
In remembrance of Lilly Nicholas, a woman of fortitude and heart, her memory will be treasured in the legacy she leaves behind—a tapestry of love woven throughout generations.
