Layton Dickerson

One of my favorite memories is the day that Kyle was born. We had a whole bunch of family at the hospital the morning Kyle was born. After Kyle was born, all of the family came into the room, and I am not sure what happened, but all of the family was leaving the room to give Ed, Dave and I a few minutes to introduce Lule to David. Everyone left the room except us 4 and a couple of minutes later, in walks Dad… he said with the biggest grin on his face, and he said, “as the elevator doors were closing, I stopped them and walked out of the elevator saying that I forgot something in the room.” I asked him what he forgot. He said, I didn’t forget anything, I just wanted to be the first one to hold Kyle after you three. LOL After David held Kyle, Ed handed Kyle over to Dad. As he was looking down on Kyle with the largest smile ever, I said, Dad, I am sorry I forgot to get you a card or a gift for your birthday. He turned and looked and me and said “This is the best present you could have given me!” It was great to be able to have a child born on his birthday!

There are so many wonderful times that I could write, but the one I am going to talk about today is when we went to the convalescent home on New Years Eve and I was probably only about 6 or 7. On top of my Dad being the life of the party and bringing everyone joy with his jokes and his contagious laugh, I remember getting to dance with him. And at that age, the way that I danced with him was standing on his feet so I just followed his lead! That is such a precious memory for me! You will forever be in my thoughts Daddy! Love you lots!
