Biography of Lady CATHERINE OMUEKPEN ASOTIE (LSM)
Deeds not stones, are the true monuments of the great. Indeed we have lost a great Amazon.
Lady CATHERINE OMUEKPEN ASOTIE was born to Princess Omoduwa Irete and Prince JOHNSON EBADIN OKOJIE of Ugboha on the 23rd day of November, 1949.
Early in her life and In her quest for education, she had enrolled at the Local Education Authority Primary School, Idumuegelan, Ebhoiyi - Uromi. She thereafter proceeded to famous Secondary Modern School, Uromi from 1964 - 1966.
She was very impressed by the Christian faith and as such Lady Catherine became a soldier of Jesus Christ by virtue of her baptism at St. Anthony Catholic Church Uromi on the 22nd of December, 1960. Ever since then, she has been a committed Christian whose Faith never wavered.
Her professional life was born and nurtured at the famous Benin City St. Philomena Catholic School of Midwifery between 1970 and 1973. She thereafter proceeded to the State School of Nursing, Warri - Delta State, 1984 - 1986.
As a Nurse and midwife, Lady Catherine has worked variously at the following locations:
1. General Hospital, Igbanke, 1974-1975.
2. Auchi General Hospital 1975-1980
3. Uromi General Hospital 1981-1982, 2000-2005
4. Ubiaja General Hospital, 1982-1984, 1987-1999, 2005-2009
5. State School of Nursing 1984-1986
6. Usugbenu Hospital 1999-2000
7. Lady Catherine Asotie also worked at the famous Mobile Clinic, established by the enigmatic Gov. Prof. Ambrose Ali of blessed memory in 1981.
She retired after 35 years of meritorious service in the year 2001.
Family life:
Lady Catherine was happily married to her soulmate and heartthrob, Sir George Okoutako Asotie and survived by a sister Deaconess Mercy Olumese , sons and daughters ,grandchildren ; and relations. Lady Catherine Asotie was the immediate junior sister to the famous late Mr. Samson Ehetuamhen Irete
Religious activities:
Lady Catherine Asotie was a devoted Christian and a practicing Catholic. She lived an extraordinary exemplary Christian life and was active in the matters of the Kingdom till the end.
She proudly belonged to many pious societies.
Lady Catherine Omuekpen Asotie devoted herself to the service of God very early in her life. She was very active in the lay societies like the CWO where she held several Executive positions. She was a member of the Adorers of the Holy Eucharist of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Irrua. She was honoured by the Holy Father, Pope John Paul 11 with a certificate of long service award for being a member of St. Benedict Monastery, Ewu, for many years.
Lady Catherine Asotie was a founding member of the Catholic Nurses Guild of Nigeria in 1978/89. She later introduced the Catholic Nurses Guild in the Old Agbazilo and Okpebholo Deaneries.
Lady Catherine Asotie was an active member of the Affiliates of the Sisters of Sacred Heart of Jesus, Atani - Uromi.
She is a 4th Degree Lady of the Ladies of St. Mulumba where she served as 2nd Vice President in the old Ishan Sub Council.
In her life time, she loves reading.
Lady Catherine OMUEKPEN ASOTIE was an epitome of love, graciousness humility and kindness.
She was humble and kind to a fault. She was a nexus and connector, a bridge builder and a unifier. Many fledging marriages were strengthened by her advice and support. Her disposition and love of God made her and her loving husband first choice as sponsor for many marriages. Many indigent students benefited from her benevolence as many are today highly educated through her efforts. She will be greatly missed.

We were all taken aback by your sudden departure, but the memories you left behind will continue to give us the strength to move on. Your final words to me were emotional yet incredibly inspiring. Whenever you called me "Orobhen" (my goddaughter), your gentle voice never failed to lift my spirits. Sadly, no one can replace that! We cannot fully express our feelings, but we seek comfort from God, knowing that you are now resting peacefully in the Lord's embrace. You will forever be missed, big Mommy! Onos Irete
