Obituary

Karem is survived by her devoted mother, Maria de Jesus Machado Cordoba; her children, Rafael Gamez, Mishelle Gamez, Karen Gamez, and Shaira Jean-Gilles, along with her husband Woody; and her honorary daughter, Marisela Reinor. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, James Anthony, Liorah Dorothy, Antonio Glenwood, Aristes Alexander, Caleb Joseph and her great-grandchild, Zoe Alexandra. Orlando Barberena was her life partner who stood by her through life’s joys and challenges. She also leaves behind a large and loving family, including brothers, sisters, honorary siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, honorary nieces and nephews, and a multitude of lifelong friends, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Her gift was to bring joy to all of those around her. She would encourage all to believe that all was possible. To help thy neighbor in every sense of the word. From helping strangers on the street to organizing and collecting resources to help her native home of Bluefields, Nicaragua.

Karem’s love and kindness touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to inspire those she leaves behind, and her memory will be cherished forever.

Hicimos muchas diferentes reuniones en casas de nuestras amigas. Karen nunca olvidaremos tu contagiosa alegría y te extrañaremos por siempre y en cada uno de nuestros futuros reencuentros. Tengo muchísimas fotos que quisiera compartir, pero hay que dejar espacio para otros. Un abrazo hasta el cielo y hasta que Dios nos llame a estar juntas de nuevo.
