A Life Well Lived
Julian (Jule) Ashby Rasmussen, son of Julian Woodhouse Rasmussen and Nina Ashby, passed away at the age of 79 from the effects of a stroke early on June 12, 2024, at a care center in Murray, Utah. He was a few days short of celebrating his 55th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Maxine (nee Fenstermaker, married June 17, 1969). He is the father of 5 (Jennifer [Ben] Wallace, Michael [Christine], Jason [Joy], Marc [Michelle], and Marci [Al] Haibach); grandfather of 24; and great-grandfather of 3 (+ one on the way).
Jule is the oldest of 7 children (preceded in death by his parents and youngest sibling Jill [Brandt, still living] Latimer and survived by Jane [Bob, who recently passed away] Harrington, Kathy [Jamie] McQueen, Sterling [Cheryl], Eric [Robynn], & Rodney [Barbara]). Jule was born in Fillmore, Utah on May 28, 1945, while his Dad was away in France during World War II. He grew up mainly in Salt Lake City, Utah, but his family also lived in other locations in Utah; Phoenix, Arizona; and Denver, Colorado. Jule graduated from the University of Utah in 1970 with a bachelor’s in electrical engineering and spent most of his career in computer engineering and towards the end in financial planning.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he had many opportunities to serve through the years including serving a mission as a young man in the Philippines (where he helped build the first church); presiding as bishop of the Philadelphia singles ward (where he and Maxine regularly served meals to large groups of single adults in their home); serving a family history mission with Maxine; and countless other responsibilities. Jule’s lifelong passion for travel started as a young boy reading National Geographic magazines and fantasizing about seeing the world, which later led to him taking his family to live in Belgium and Hong Kong, where they traveled extensively in Europe and Asia; he also traveled to many other parts of the world. Other places the family lived include New Jersey, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, and various locations in Utah.
Jule has always had a passion for learning everything about the world around him, and he has pursued many hobbies and interests including gardening, family history, and more recently creating Native American-style flutes. He lived a life of integrity and commitment to fulfilling his family and church responsibilities and serving and blessing those around him. He sought to follow God’s will in all things and to influence others to do the same.

Julian was my Dad's (Richard Ashby) first cousin but my kids and I always referred to him as Uncle Julian. I remember so many wonderful Ashby family reunions with him and Maxine, He was loving and kind. His smile made everyone feel included. Prayers for all the families.
