Celebrating the Life of
December 6, 1939 — January 5, 2023
After a long, faithful, and beautiful life; Judith Ellen (Hillman) (Paulson) Mitchell met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 5, 2023. Judi was at home surrounded by her children, husband and family. In her 83 years Judi modeled the characteristics of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many.
Judi was born to Jess and Vivian Hillman on December 6, 1939, in Blissfield Michigan. Judi was a graduate of Blissfield High School, the class of 1958. During her time in Blissfield, MI, Judi developed many lifelong friendships and stayed in close contact with these friends her entire life. While at Blissfield High School, Judi was a cheerleader and an active member of the student body. After high school Judi graduated from Cosmetology College and started a career as a beautician.
Judi married her high school classmate, Thomas Jean Paulson in 1960. During their 23-year marriage Tom and Judi raised three children. (Sue, Bryan and Eric.) The family moved from La Porte, IN to Camarillo, CA in 1976. This is where the Paulson family called home for over 20 years. In 1983 Tom unexpectedly passed away and Judi devoted her life to raising her three children. She was a constant role model, mentor, spiritual advisor, disciplinarian and loving mother. As a single parent, Judi guided all three children to graduate college, marriage, and parenting of her six grandchildren. Through her final days, Judi was a loving role model and matriarch of the Paulson family.
Judi was an active member of the Camarillo Community. She was involved as a volunteer at Pleasant Valley Hospital, Pleasant Valley Baseball and Softball, Multiple school organizations and all the things supporting her children. She worked as an office manager for Dr. James Freeland and Sales Representative with Whitehall Robins Pharmaceutical. Judi loved people and went out of her way to be the most gracious host. She held countless parties, dinners and social events. During these events Judi’s sparkling personality, sense of humor and intoxicating laugh made everyone feel welcome. You never left her home without a full stomach, a good laugh and the feeling of being loved. She was a best friend to many and to know her was to be loved by Judi.
Judi married Delbert Mitchell in May 1991. In retirement, Del and Judi were actively involved with the restoration and showing of the Lockheed Super Constellation at Camarillo Airport. Spending countless time on the “Connie” project, Del and Judi made many lifelong friends. They traveled the world attending numerous air shows. To hear Judi’s stories of the travel, friends, and memories surrounding the Constellation, it was easy to see this was a very special time in her life. In 1999, Del and Judi moved to Las Vegas, NV and built their retirement home. Judi took great pride in decorating their home, making it a beautiful and comfortable place for all to visit. Judi’s unwavering desire to make everyone feel welcome and special carried on through her final days in Las Vegas.
Now resting with the Lord, the living on earth will never forget Judi’s empathy, selflessness and love for people. Judi is preceded in death by first husband Thomas Paulson, Parents Jess and Vivian Hillman, bothers Gene, Glenn, and Royal Hillman. She is survived by her husband Delbert Mitchell; Children; Sue (Jeff) Reich, Bryan (Vicki) Paulson, Eric (Kristi) Paulson, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Stepchildren Piper Coffaro, Kelly (Paola) Mitchell and five step-grandchildren.

My siblings and I had the wonderful opportunity of meeting Judi several years ago. When we first met her, face to face, her smile was genuine and warm. We could feel a gentleness about her. Judi and Delbert graciously welcomed us into their home as well as their lives. We will always cherish the fond memories we have of this genuinely sweet, kind woman.

Grandma Judi was a sweet soul. I remember the first time I met her and grandpa, she had made a beef cabbage dish. At the time I was a very picky eater, but I still tried the dish she had made. I fell in love with the dish and loved it so much that I asked for the recipe! Now it’s a family favorite of ours. She was always welcoming every time we met, full of love, and laughter. She will be greatly missed!

I share many, many memories growing up next to each with our families together so often. You gave me so much advice and I will always cherish the time we spent together as a group and one on one. You are a remarkable woman who raised three amazing children who went on to emulate what you taught them and add their own perspectives. I hope you are resting peacefully now sweet angel. Love you always. Stef
I cherish many fond years of living next door to you in Camarillo and raising our families together. You shall forever be in my heart. May you rest in peace.
Judi our dear beautiful cousin-in-law whose smile and kindness will live on in our hearts forever. She opened her home and her arms to welcome us into the fold and took great care to make us feel welcomed and appreciated when we visited her and Del in Las Vegas. Because of her endless optimism and a heart full of love for all, she leaves a legacy that serves us all. She embodied grace. With great sadness, we say farewell for now but never goodbye. May she rest and rejoice in the love of our Lord, God, and be rewarded for a life well lived.
Our love and prayers go out to you all. Judy was a beautiful lady (both inside and out). She will be missed so much but you have many, many, many beautiful memories to remember her by. Love to you all from my family and me.
My memories are of the most kind, loving, beautiful and gracious woman. To know her was to live her and to be accepted and loved. She truly touched many lives.
