Judith Anne Howard Frey, born November 20, 1938 died peacefully on April 22, 2024. She was the daughter of Orville and Alice (Eno) Howard, and sister to Betty Howard Emerson, and Robert Howard. She was married to her devoted husband Bernard (Bernie) for 64 years.
Judith was known as Judy by her friends, and Nanna Judy by her 4 grandchildren Sahara, Laurel, Jackson, and Madison. She is survived by her children Cynthia Frey Edmonds (Peter), Heather Frey Ensley (Scott) and Aaron Frey (Beth) as well as her brother-in-law James Frey (Cheryl), and many nieces and nephews, including Carolyn Mickelson (Tim).
Judy was born in Hanley Iowa. She met her husband Bernie and they married shortly after she graduated from high school in 1957. Their initials are carved into one of the famous Bridges of Madison County. Bernie’s career in the Air Force took them around the United States during their marriage, and they retired to their home in Canyon Lake, Texas.
She loved to sing and garden, and was known to have a quick wit. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines choir in Des Moines, Iowa and the many churches she belonged to. Her favorite hymns were The Old Rugged Cross and How Great Thou Art. She was an active member of the Episcopal church and volunteered with the church in many capacities. She was also active in the Gold Star Mothers organization of Canyon Lake, Texas.
Judy’s life will be celebrated in a private service at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be interred with her husband.
