Joseph Henry Apple IV died after a short illness on May 9, 2024 at Inova Loudoun
Hospital. He was born in Berkeley Springs, WV the son of Joseph Henry Apple III
and Mattie Medora West Apple who predeceased him. He graduated from
Berkeley Springs High School. He attended West Virginia University where he
earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Joe is survived by his cousin
Ken McAlpine (Kathy) and Ken’s sons Cullen and Graham (Kori) and longtime
friend Donna Tomlinson. Joe worked for many years in communications designing
and implementing networks in the US and other countries. During those years Joe
lived in Frederick MD, Herndon VA, and Reston VA. Joe was a longtime active
member of Floris United Methodist Church in Herndon. He was a willing volunteer
and worked with the youth group for many years. Joe moved to Ashby Ponds in
Ashburn in 2018. Joe was a longtime supporter of the American Himalayan
Foundation and a member of the Sierra Club. He was an avid traveler and biker.
He went to several countries to participate in bike rallies. He also traveled to
Nepal, Bhutan, Sweden, Norway, and Alaska. Joe participated in several Sierra
Club service trips working on trail maintenance and other activities.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Floris United Methodist Church on
May 30, 2024 at 11 AM. The link to live-stream the service is

be held.
In lieu of flowers you may donate to Floris United Methodist Church, the
Ashby Ponds Benevolent Care Fund, Hood College in Frederick MD, or the
