Celebrating the Life of
May 18, 1983 — December 20, 2023
Joseph Martino (Joey), our beloved son and brother, passed away on December 20th, 2023.
Joey was born on May 18th, 1983 in Berkeley, California, to mother Lisa Martino, and father, Vince Martino. He was raised in a loving Italian family and grew up into a kind, inquisitive, and intelligent young man. Joey had many passions and hobbies, including playing the piano, reading, robotics, fencing, and learning history.
Joey attended college at UC Davis, in California, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in History and a double-minor in Italian and Political Science. Joey became very cultured, well-traveled, and fluent in Italian and Spanish. He spent 1 year studying abroad in Bologna, Italy, and also traveled to Prague, Spain and other parts of Europe. His passion for history took him on the esteemed “Camino de Santiago” pilgrimage in northern Spain as well as many other excursions. His adventurous spirit was felt by his family back home as well as by his extended family, relatives, and friends abroad, with whom he spent significant time with.
Joey enjoyed playing games and cards and was gifted in his mastery of Poker. He spent significant time in Las Vegas in early adulthood, professionally playing cards at the competitive level. His skills and talents inspired those close to him.
Joey also fought a long battle with his personal health. There were many ups and downs and Joey coped with these struggles for several years–he was grateful to recieve support from his family and experienced comfort from being around them.
Joey is survived by his parents Lisa & Vince, and his brothers, Steven and Adam.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Joey at Oakmont Memorial Park at 1pm on January 5th, 2023, followed by a banquet with family and friends.
The Martino Family would like to thank the staff at Oakmont Memorial Park and all of their family and friends for the continued support. They also ask that, in lieu of sympathy gifts, a donation be made in honor of Joey to NAMI of Contra Costa County.
L'eterno riposo dona loro, o Signore,
e splenda ad essi la luce perpetua.
Riposino in pace.
Amen.
