La Vie en Rose - I see life in pink
- AEdith Piaf
A star took her place in the heavens when Jean Delores Laws was called home on Saturday morning, December 9, 2023. She had completed her mission to bring beauty, song, laughter, and love to everyone and everywhere she went with brilliance and style.
Jean was born on July 31,1939, in Chester, Pennsylvania, to Effie Mae Jackson.
Even as a child her creative spirit was evident. She was independent, self-assured, enterprising, and clever. Adults adored her and children gravitated to her. Jean sang on her church choir, gathered flowers and crafted little bouquets to sell to churchgoers and neighbors, and excelled in school. As she grew, she blossomed into a beauty who found her way onto the stage and modeling while in college.
The second eldest of four children, she was one of the first in her immediate family to attend college. She studied theater and English at Boston University on full scholarship. In addition to acting and modeling, Jean taught English at the junior and senior high school level. As a guidance counselor, she influenced hundreds of working-class students to dream higher and explore their gifts and talents to see their own brilliance. It wasn’t long before she expanded her reach when she moved to St. Maarten and organized a dance and entertainment company called Laws Enterprises that was in demand and was known for its creative routines, spectacular costumes, and captivating performances.
Also, while in St. Maarten ,Jean also taught at St.Maarten University where she mentored many to shine in the performing arts, education, medicine, law, and more.
While she nurtured friends, students, and colleagues, her greatest brilliance was how she blessed her family. She shared her life with her loving life partner,David Wagner, and children, Michael and Michelle. She was a grandmother,great-grandmother, and a great-great grandmother. She loved her family with the devotion and care that only a very big heart can give. She delighted the family with her funny stories and generous hugs and kisses. She kept everyone together with big family dinners and parties.
Great dinners and parties were not only for family because Jean was known for hosting fabulous gatherings. A party in the penthouse, or wherever the venue, was an experience of food, interesting people, laugher, and music in a setting that was decorated in her signature style. Whether it was her home or herself, Jean was sequins, feathers, flowers, and... drama!
And now that her mission here is done, her light shines in the hearts of the many, many family members and friends she touched during her extraordinary life. Loved ones who may follow I her footsteps and take comfort in many beautiful memories.
