Henry James Marshall of York, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday July 21, 2021 at the age of 71. After several months of declining health, Henry died peacefully with his beloved wife Lydia and their children by his side.
Henry was born in York to father John Louis Marshall and mother Helen Jean Marshall. The oldest of three sons, Henry didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education. He helped out on his family’s small farm and worked any odd jobs he could find starting at an early age. His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led to him enlisting in the Army at age 18.
After his service which included a brief stint in Vietnam, Henry returned to York and used his G.I. Bill benefits to buy property next to his family’s farm. Together with his father, they grew the family business exponentially. This growth helped bring economic prosperity to York. Henry invested heavily in the town’s youth. He funded scholarship opportunities for outstanding students. Through these endeavors, he met local nurse Lydia Edna Sylvan. They married in 1974.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived his wife Lydia; children Gary Stephen Marshall (Diane) and Pamela Dawn Miller (Paul); grandchildren Heather Nicole Marshall, John Joseph Marshall, and Ryan William Miller; brothers Stanley Marshall and Kelvin Marshall and sister Elaine Marshall Nichols along with many nieces and nephews.
