Celebrating the Life of
May 30, 1953 — September 23, 2024
Jana Vogt Catignani passed away on September 23, 2024 at home in Brookfield, Connecticut at the age of 71. She was surrounded and cared for by family. Jana was a warmhearted mother and wife, whose greatest joy was to see her family happy. A boundless love for dancing, Jana’s friends and family know she was always up to cut a rug, and passed on that appreciation to her children. She enjoyed Formula 1 racing, Agatha Christie mysteries, cheering on the Sooners football team and taking scenic drives with her husband through the winding roads of Connecticut and New York. Growing up as a military brat, Jana lived many places, but called Oklahoma home for 40 years beginning in the early 1970s. Jana taught college history courses at several colleges and universities, including at the University of Oklahoma and Rose State College. She took seriously the task of passing on an appreciation of U.S. history to her students. Jana worked hard to pursue a degree after having children, earning her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Oklahoma. Jana was preceded in death by her father Boyd Vogt, mother Gladys Vogt and son Tyger Dennis. She is survived by her husband Alfredo Catignani, brother B.K. Vogt, sister Cy Vogt, daughters Caitlin Dennis Bailey (husband Scott Bailey), Emily White (husband Matthew White), granddaughter Poppy White, and stepsons Christopher Catignani and Dustin Catignani. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org. A celebration of life will be held Sat., Oct 5 at 2p in Norman. All who knew Jana are welcome.
