James Roberts was born in Yazoo County, Mississippi, to the late Birder Virginia Roberts and Porter Roberts.
He attended St. Peter Rock Baptist Church in Yazoo, Mississippi, and was baptized in the Mississippi River. Jim was a devoted supervisor and machinist at Archer Daniels Midland for over 35 years, where he befriended and mentored many. God called him home on December 14th, 2024, at the age of 85.
James met Vera and they were united in holy matrimony over 30 years ago. She remained faithful to him until his passing.
He is preceded in death by two sons James Roberts Jr. and Jeffery Roberts, sister-in-law Diane Roberts, and sister Karyn Freeman. He was joined in transition by his brother L.T Roberts on December 20, 2024. We also mourn his loss.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Vera, his beloved daughter Claudia (fiance Cyrus), two sons; Renyold (Vicky), Robert (Mercedees), his stepson Charles (Patrice) Isom, and sister Lorraine Washington. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends with whom he shared love throughout the years.
Jim had a deep passion for staying informed, especially when it came to current events. As a dedicated news enthusiast, he was always up to date on the latest developments, with a particular fondness for CNN, ABC, and MSNBC. Outside of news, he had a love for cinema and often recalled catching “penny” shows in his youth. His favorite movie, was Home Alone— a holiday tradition he cherished watching each year with his daughter, Claudia. He also had a soft spot for classic westerns, timeless TV shows, cars and the soulful rhythms of blues music. Jim is most known for his calm and even-tempered nature, he had a quiet strength that made him a steady presence in the lives of those around him.
