James Noel Jukes, affectionately known as "Jim" to his friends, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024, at the age of 83 in Sun City. Born on February 25, 1941, Jim lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Jo Gillihan; his son, Larry Dean Jukes; his siblings, Kent Jukes and Twila Jukes; and his parents, Henry and June Etta. Jim leaves behind a loving family: his sister, Dodie Jukes-McLean, his daughter, Mary Dawn Grace, his son, James Jukes; and his cherished grandchildren, Kashmir, Sebastian, and Olive.
Jim served his country proudly in the Army and later pursued his passion for baking, becoming known for his delicious cakes and donuts. His talent in the kitchen was matched by his love for golf, where he was celebrated for mastering the elusive hole-in-one. Jim was a true jokester, always ready with a great joke, and his sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met.
In the community, Jim was recognized as a genuinely great guy, beloved by all who knew him. He had a special bond with his dogs and had a unique ability to make them into wonderful companions. His faithful Sheltie, Lady, was the best dog anyone could meet and sorely misses her loving master. Jim also loved Chiefs football, cheering on his favorite team with great enthusiasm.
A celebration of Jim's life will be August 31, at the American Legion in Gardner, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his honor.
Jim's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
