James Musawenkosi Bennie

James Musawenkosi Bennie was born on 03 January 1939 in eNkumba, Bulwer. He was the third son of Wilson Oliff Bennie and Margaret Bennie (umaNgcobo). They moved to eDwaleni where his father taught Mechanics. He studied at iNkamane Boarding School where he matriculated.
He started working in Durban where he met and married umaNtenga. They have a daughter uXolisile Maduna.
He later met and married umaSkosana, they had three children uSibongiseni, uNonhlanhla no Zandile.
He worked at various government departments, starting at uMzinto, he was posted at Ulundi, and Sheptone House in Pietermaritzburg amongst many other areas.
He held different positions - starting as an Administrative Clerk, working his way up to being Township Manager, KwaMakhutha, Deputy Township Manager eMlazi and Township Manager KwaMashu. He was a Director at the Department of Local Government, he was stationed at the Coastal Region office and responsible for a number of municipalities. For a short period of time he also acted as Director in the Inland regional office. He retired in 2004 and still kept very active during his years of retirement. He was well liked by his fellow peers and colleagues.
He is survived by his sister Thandi Bennie, his wife umaNtenga, his children Thando, Xolisile, Zanele, Sibongiseni, Nonhlanhla & Zandile Bennie. He was blessed with ten grandchildren: Wandile & Lulu Bennie, Mandisa Maduna, Sipho, Musawenkosi & Sandile Sikakane, Siphesihle, Loluthando, Nakokonke & Siseko Nkomo
