Celebrating the Life of
July 30, 1943 — July 28, 2024
JAMES A. (JIMMY) GLENN
Jimmy Glenn 80, of Newell NC met Jesus face to face on July 28th 2024. Mr. Glenn accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1957 while helping with a Billy Graham Crusade in Charlotte NC.
Jimmy was born July 30, 1943 in Newell NC. He was married to Brenda Dawkins Glenn for 49 years (she preceded him to Heaven in 2013). Together they raised two children of their own, then became foster parents and opened their home to more than 100 foster children over the next 20 years, ultimately adopting four of them.
Jimmy was a self-taught mechanic, designer, engineer and fabricator of hydraulic systems and in many cases he designed and built the machinery those hydraulic systems ran. He had a unique ability for figuring out problems with complex systems and the fixes; he could then explain in simple terms to customers, co-workers or employees what the problems were and how to fix them. In most cases, the machinery and equipment he built was designed and built without the use of drawings or plans. He thought it out, did the calculations, and started building. He was fortunate to work with some large corporations but really enjoyed working with the smaller companies during his career.
Jimmy quietly accomplished many great things personally and professionally in life, he was a tough, confident, competitive, selfless, strong willed Man that didn’t know the meaning of the word quit. He had an incredible amount commonsense and it showed in everything he did. The things most important to Jimmy were God, his family, friends and Breyers ice cream.
His grandchildren Lora Glenn, Kayla, Ashley, Cale and Sydney Sharpe & great granddaughter Piper Sharpe were his pride and joy
He was also preceded to Heaven by his parents, Walter W. & Elizabeth McClellan Glenn, and his two brothers, Walter W. Glenn Jr & John M. Glenn.
He is survived by his children, J. Chris (Dana) Glenn, Beth (Billy) Sharpe, Christopher K. Glenn, David Glenn, April Hocsak, his grandchildren & great granddaughter.
A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held at Newell Presbyterian Church 1500 Rocky River Rd. Charlotte NC
12pm to 4pm Saturday August 10, 2024. Food will be served.
