In Loving Memory of Inga Esperanza Dyer: A Trailblazer of Love, Leadership, and Legacy
Inga Esperanza Dyer illuminated our lives with her radiant spirit from the moment she entered this world on August 4, 1971, in Los Angeles, California. Born to Henry Louis Dyer and Carl Ann Halton Dyer, she was their cherished only child, enveloped in a cocoon of love and nurtured with boundless support and guidance.
From her earliest days at Pilgrim School in Los Angeles, CA, Inga displayed a remarkable blend of intellect, charisma, and compassion. Her academic prowess and leadership acumen were evident as she graced the honor roll and assumed pivotal roles in school clubs such as the dance club, cheerleading squad, and pep squad. Her involvement as a child in Jack and Jill of America, Inc.’s South Los Angeles Chapter ignited a fervent passion for community service and a deep appreciation for her African American heritage. These experiences shaped her lifelong, commitment to making a difference as exemplified through her reconnection with Jack and Jill as a Legacy Mother Member in the organization’s Los Angeles Chapter, where she dedicated nearly two decades of service.
At the tender age of 16, Inga embarked on her higher education journey at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where her brilliance continued to shine brightly. Immersed in a vibrant tapestry of culture and intellect, she thrived academically while actively participating in numerous student clubs, including Campus Pals, The California/LA Club, and The Homecoming Committee. While still a Freshman, Inga journeyed home to mark another milestone as she was presented as a debutante by the Los Angeles Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, a testament to her grace, poise, and burgeoning leadership. In the Spring of 1991, Inga became a member of her beloved Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. As a proud number “6” of Alpha Chapter’s “Ardorous 37” line, she found sisterhood and purpose, cherishing the bonds she formed and the legacy she helped to uphold. Her transformative experience at Howard University culminated in her graduation with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in the spring of 1992, marking the beginning of her extraordinary odyssey.
Undeterred by challenges, Inga pursued her dream of becoming an entertainment attorney at Howard University School of Law, where she excelled academically and immersed herself in advocacy and mentorship. Her Juris Doctorate in 1996 served as a gateway to a distinguished legal career spanning twenty-seven years, during which she left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry and legal community.
Inga's professional journey included notable roles as General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs at Revolt TV, Senior Vice President and Head of Business & Legal Affairs at MACRO, along with esteemed roles at other entertainment companies such as BET Networks, Spike TV, and Magic Johnson Enterprises, before she found her home at The Walt Disney Company. Her advocacy extended beyond the boardroom, as she passionately championed diversity and mentorship as a vocal advocate for organizations like the Black Entertainment Sports Lawyers Association (BESLA), where she served as a dedicated board member since 2012.
Inga's entrepreneurial spirit knew no bounds, as evidenced by her co-founding of MEDASE Cocktails, the world's first black woman-owned, hemp-infused mocktail company, in pursuit of providing healthier alternatives in the alcohol-free, ready-to-drink category. Her creativity, innovation, and commitment to wellness were evident in every aspect of her life and work.
Beyond her professional achievements, Inga was a vibrant soul with a warm heart and an infectious smile. Her love for dancing and music was legendary, often showcased at local karaoke spots with friends every Thursday night for 15 years. She would refer to herself as the karaoke queen whose go-to-songs were “Carwash” and “Love Will Keep Us Together”. A true fashionista, she had a keen eye for a good sale, and her love for art, flowers, and the beach added to her vibrant personality.
Inga's legacy of love and devotion shines brightest through her role as a mother, which she held as her greatest honor and joy. From her union with Byron Chamberlain, daughter Lauryn Chamberlain was born on February 17, 2001, now a thriving 22-year-old who embodies her mother's flair, grace, and beauty. Inga poured her heart and soul into nurturing Lauryn, instilling in her the same values of kindness, resilience, and boundless creativity that defined her own character.
Along with Sterling Anderson, Inga welcomed a son, Isley Anderson, on October 29, 2008, now a 15-year-old whose life has been shaped by Inga's boundless love, guidance, and unwavering support. Their bond was a tapestry woven with laughter, hugs, and shared adventures, as Inga cherished every moment spent exploring the world with her beloved children.
Together, they journeyed to Japan, Hawaii, and Europe, as well as cherished destinations closer to home such as New York City, Washington, DC, Martha’s Vineyard, Palm Springs, and San Diego. Each trip was an opportunity for Inga to impart her wisdom, share her love of culture and exploration, and create cherished memories that would last a lifetime.
Inga's love for her children knew no bounds, and her legacy lives on through the love and light they bring into the world. As they carry her spirit forward, may they always feel the warmth of her embrace and the strength of her unwavering love guiding them through life's journey.
Inga's pride in her heritage and family ran deep, as she often shared with joy the remarkable achievements of her parents. She was so proud to be Henry and Carl Ann‘s child! Her mother's pioneering role as one of the first African American women engineers in the Aerospace Industry filled her with immense pride, while her father's legendary status as a Grambling State University football icon and former professional player with the Washington Redskins and Los Angeles Rams brought her great joy. Throughout her life, Inga cherished attending college and professional football and basketball games with her father, creating cherished memories of shared passion and camaraderie.
Celebrating the accomplishments and milestones of her loved ones was a hallmark of Inga's character, embodying a spirit of genuine joy and communal support that touched all who knew her. Her boundless love, resilience, and unwavering commitment to family, friends, and community were the cornerstones of her legacy.
Inga is survived by her beloved parents, Carl Ann and Henry, whose love and guidance shaped her into the extraordinary woman she became. She leaves behind her cherished children, Lauryn Chamberlain and Isley Anderson, and her beloved Godsister Laurin Brown. Inga's memory will forever be treasured by her extended family of uncles, aunts, cousins, and “framily,” who were touched by her warmth, kindness, and infectious spirit.
Inga's journey is now joined by the generations that preceded her, as she is preceded in death by her grandparents, Carl and Esperaza Halton, and Olevia and Henry Dyer. Their legacies, intertwined with Inga's, form a tapestry of love and resilience that will endure through the ages.
While Inga's physical presence may be gone, her legacy of love, resilience, and commitment to excellence will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know her. As we bid farewell to a beloved daughter, mother, friend, and community leader, may Inga Esperanza Dyer find eternal peace, her memory forever enshrined in our hearts.
