Ilia Semczysyn , 84 , passed away on March 18, 2024 , at his home in Hartford CT. He was born on August 25 1939, in Ukraine to Gregory Semchyshyn and Justina Semchyshyn (Hryn). He married his wife Liuba on May 5th 1981 in Ukraine . Ilia served in the Ukrainian navy, and then worked as a delivery driver when he got to the USA. He loved to garden and planted lots of cucumbers and tomatoes in his garden. He was a chess player and you would very often find him playing chess at the Ukrainian National Home in Hartford CT. He was Soo good at it that he won a few chess tournaments. He will be remembered as a proud Ukrainian and proud tato of two. Ilia is survived by his wife of 43 years Liuba Semczysyn, and his children Diana and Victor. Also his nephews Taras, Paul and Peter Semchyshyn.
Family and friends gathered for a funeral service at St. Michael's Ukrainian Church along with a graveside service on March 22nd 2024.
This Saturday April 27th will mark 40 days since his death, the Saturday service at St. Michaels will be a special prayer for his soul to go to heaven.
