Celebrating the Life of
December 14, 1959 — October 8, 2023
Hellen ‘Hailey’ Ann Horton died unexpectedly in her home on October 8th, 2023 in Davie, FL at the age of 63. She was survived by her mother Sarah (Pitts) Liggon, of Margate, FL, brother Gene Pitts (and Joyce Pitts) of Shelby, MS, sister Patricia Minor (and Horace Minor) of Columbia, MD, sister Lillian Gilford of Atlanta, GA, sister Marcella Anderson (and Erik Anderson) of Oakland, CA, sister Brenda Horton of Pleasanton, CA, sister Gwendolyn Horton-Miller (and Vaughn Miller) of Sugar Land, TX, sister Salone Horton of Houston, TX, brother Monsterville Horton (and Bhakti Khatri-Horton) of Houston, TX, brother Sidney Horton (and Jennifer Santos) of Emeryville, CA, sister Evelyn Horton-Raymond of Houston, TX, brother Dexter Horton (and Ava Horton) of Miami, FL, brother Pedro Horton Sr. of Homestead, FL, and a host of adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Monsterville Horton Sr. of Mound Bayou, MS in 1997.
Hellen was born on December 14th, 1959 in Shelby, MS to father Monsterville Horton Sr. and mother Sarah (Pitts) Horton. She graduated from Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1978, and attended Howard College in Columbia, Maryland to pursue a degree in Education. However, her greatest accomplishments were her baptism as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on October 5th, 1974 and entering the Regular Pioneer service in 1981.
To know Hellen is to appreciate her self-sacrifice, generosity, and giving spirit. So much so that we would be hard pressed to find any among us who have not received at minimum….a theocratic gift, an encouraging card, words of encouragement, flowers, various baked goods, and/or a listening ear with a helping hand.
Most profoundly, all who knew Hellen knew she was serious about her ministry, both inside and outside the congregation. Not only was she a skillful preacher and teacher, but she zealously made it a goal to make her contribution to the good news at any and every opportunity. In fact, Hellen was, quite literally… engaged in her “letter writing” ministry at the time of her untimely death.
A virtual memorial service is scheduled for November 18th, 2023 with an online reception to follow. Br. Leslie Jones will deliver the memorial talk. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Hellen's life.
THEME SCRIPTURE: "I thank my God always when I remember you in every supplication of mine ... I offer each supplication with joy, because of the contribution you have made to the good news from the first day until this moment." (Philippians 1:3 - 5) NWT Bible

Dear Miller/Horton Families, My deepest sympathy to you as you endure the pain of grief upon grief for the loss of your two beloved family members. Only Jehovah knows the true depth of your pain and he will give you all the comfort you need to endure through it (2 Cor. 1:3-4). I am sorry that I did not get to meet Sis. Liggon personally but I am looking forward to doing so in the paradise. I have fond memories of Hellen and her stalwart faithfulness. In March 2021, I texted her a picture of a beautiful garden. Her response to me was, "I'll see you in paradise." That's how solid her faith was in Jehovah's promises. I am looking forward to seeing her again in the soon to come paradise.
I am so sorry for your loss. We knew Helen for a long time. She was a sweet sister. My Condolences goes out to your family.
I think of Hailey as a selfless witness, daughter, sister and friend. Always generously giving of herself. My husband and I are happy that we had the pleasure of knowing her and having her as a guest in our home. Our sure hope is to see our dear sister when all things will be made new.
I only knew her for just a little while. We became good friends over the phone never, but we never met each other personally. One thing I always admired about her was that she always put Jehovah first no matter what she was going through. She always put Jehovah first and that's why I miss her so much. I really look forward to seeing her come back in the resurrection. I miss talking to her on the phone. First time I ever laid eyes on her sadly was on this obituary. Jehovah will never forget the love she showed for his name the majority of her life. My condolences to the family. Brother Shaw.

Hailey, I miss you more than words can say .....my entire world is less bright without you in it. I will CHERISH every moment we shared together and the memories I have of you. (The baking/the laughter and the love we shared in caring for mother that bonds us for an eternity). I feel so blessed to have you as my sister. As we so often shared, there is never a reason to have an unnecessary confrontation and you would say “I CAN SHOW YOU BETTER THAN I CAN TELL YOU”. I I agree. I love you ……your “Twin” Lillian
Gwendolyn my dear sister and friend, I have some understanding of what you’re going through; and, I am profoundly sorry. May your many fond memories of beloved Hellen bring you comfort and peace. Much love, Carrie

Gwen my Sister, my friend, my heart is aching with so much sorrow for your loss. My heartfelt prayers are sent for you and all the family. Losing a loved one is painful enough but when it’s unexpected it seems extremely unfair. Jehovah our God promises to right this wrong. The day is coming when He will call and the dead will answer. There will be a resurrection to life the righteous and unrighteous. This message of hope can serve to comfort us during this time of loss. I love you my Sister, my friend. I love you!
We were so sorry to hear about our dear sister Hellen Horton. She was a lovely companion in the ministry for me and Jacob. She got us loving her favorite yogurt that she just made us try. Also, to you and to your family, I am very sorry. There is never enough time to spend with those we love. My beautiful and kind sister Miller, I am so sorry. Psalm 61:1,2

Hello Gwen and all of the Miller family. Gwen I was having a hard time remembering your dear sister and my spiritual sis, then I saw her beautiful picture and immediately remembered her. I had the pleasure of attending a dinner for the pioneers! She just fitted right in and we had a great time. I’m so sorry for your great loss. Just know you’re not alone in grieving for her. My ♥️ heart goes out to your family during this very difficult time. My prayers are with you. Much love to you all.
Our deepest sympathy for your loss. We’re deeply saddened because we’ve known Hellen for a long time. May you find comfort in God’s word. Thanks to Jehovah we have a family of spiritual brothers and sisters that will always be there to comfort us. We know she will not sleep a long time. We’re now very close to Jehovah’s beautiful promise of a paradise and we’ll see her again. Hope in Jehovah. He will never let us down. Love, Turner family
Words cannot be expressed as I know the loss you have been facing. One thing I know about you and your family is that you’re always there for Hellen. The love you poured into Hellen was shown both by you and her to you and the boys. Hellen left us but she left knowing that you truly loved her. Her love for Jehovah is contagious b/c everyone who was around was going to get the latest information from the society in which she loved teaching & sharing. You have incurred a great loss but it’s not forever as you will see her again in the new system. Take courage, be strong and stay close with Jehovah, family, your friends. I love you so much. I’m here anytime. I love you so much Gwen.
