Celebrating the Life of
May 6, 1945 — August 18, 2024
Giles Joseph Clarence Gervais entered heavens gates on 8-18-24 at 11:45 pm CT in San Antonio, TX.
He was born May 6th, 1945, in Madawaska Maine to Anne Chassè and Medley Gervais. French being the native tongue in the family of ten children, Gil always strived to keep his French language active and culture throughout his life.
Enlisted in the US Army at 17 years old, he served for 3 years of active duty at the rank of specialist, mainly in Germany and was honorably discharged.
Gil was a loving father, small business owner in Hemet, CA, and dedicated church member and elder. He was known by many as a car aficionado and was a master mechanic of 60 years in which he rebuilt over 500 engines in his career. He operated a very successful business, Gil's Automotive Import Repair with his first wife Cathryn Louise. Gil is survived by his current wife Loel, his three daughters Sascha Austin-Gervais, Magen Ervin-Gervais, and Alicia Carroll. He also is a very proud grandpa of seven grandchildren, Myles, Cherish, Autumn, Cameron, Landon, Hadley and Xzavier. Recently, he was blessed with the birth of his first great grandson, Halo Donald Henderson.
Gil passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, and finally found relief after a long battle of lung complications from an injury he received in the Army. An excerpt from his final words in his journal on 8-2: "I am feeling that I shall be healed. The when is the search I am seeking. Talking to the Holy Spirit."
He will be remembered as a hero to many, a mentor and teacher to his grandchildren, and an inspirational example of staunch faith in Christ to hundreds through his life and career.
He will rest alongside Cathryn at Riverside National cemetery in Riverside, CA.
A memorial near there is being scheduled soon. Email for contact [email protected] if you want to contribute or contact his daughters. A link at the front of this page labeled "keep me posted" is available to stay updated.

We always remember Gil and Cathy as always welcoming us with our four children into there home in Hemet. Gil had a laugh that was so infectious. We always enjoyed being around Gervais’. Even being friends at church. We always remember Gil being able to help us find a good deal on a car or one for our oldest daughter, Angela. Gil will be missed by friends and loved ones. We know he is by Jesus’ side celebrating with the others including Cathy that have gone before us.

Hadley, my dynamic sassy niece. It was such an honor being with my papa as he went to be with the Lord but also have this exceptional time helping my sis Alicia.

Spending precious time with family. I know papa is smiling down from heaven so glad we got time together!

8-24 Garden of the God trail and park. It was an amazing windy day as we worked through our sorrow.
I loved grandpa for all his stories of the old days. I always knew he would pray for me when he called.
