Celebrating the Life of
May 7, 1932 — July 8, 1990
Dearly loved and missed by his wife, Elaine, children and grandchildren.
Gerson “Gus” Blaustein of Newton, MA, owner of Gus Blaustein & Associates, died Sunday, July 8, 1990 at home, after a battle with cancer. He was 58 and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Mr. Blaustein was born in Boston, MA, and was a resident of Newton for the past 12 years. He also resided in Hull, MA and Fort Lauderdale, FL.
He graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School in 1948. After graduation, Mr. Blaustein served in the Marine Corp during the Korean War. After his military service, he ran amusement park stands and arcades at Paragon Park in Hull. He later managed and co-owned multiple bars; and the Blue Bunny night club where famous performers, including Fats Domino, The Shirelles and Judy Garland, performed. In 1964, Mr. Blaustein transitioned to working as a salesman and ran a successful regional automotive accessories business in Holbrook, MA, for the past 18 years.
Mr. Blaustein was very active in his community. He was a member of Temple Beth Shalom in Hull; Temple Beth Avodah in Newton; and the Nantascot Lodge of Masons of Hull. He was also a volunteer for the Town of Hull and was a regular election worker at the voting booths.
He will be remembered most for his care for immediate family. Mr. Blaustein was always there to help out with financial support or with sound advice. Although he was a man of few words, he would call his family almost daily to learn about the latest updates and gossip. He loved to walk the beach and bayside of Hull with his wife by his side. His hobbies included his weekly poker games with his friends; ultra-competitive family cribbage matches; and playing and watching candlepin bowling.
Mr. Blaustein is survived by his wife, Elaine (Anten); two daughters, Julie R. Blaustein of Newton and Lisa G. Fish of Westwood, MA; a son, Maurice C. of Newton; two brothers, Harvey S. of Stoughton, MA and Sumner T. of Brighton, MA; a sister, Rita Markovsky of Newton; and his grandson, Mel Fish of Newton.
