Gail Yates

Gail Ellen Yates, 67, of Stanwood, Iowa, peacefully passed away at Care Initiatives Hospice in Mechanicsville, Iowa on Monday, July 1, 2024. She was born in Iowa City, May 25th,1957. Gail is survived by her husband of 43 years, Mike Yates, her two sons, Jeffrey and Matthew Yates (Brianna), her grandchildren, Olive, Claire, William, Beckett, Anthony and David, and her siblings: Roger Freitag (Susan), Lora Gwin (Mark), Kathy Melby (Zach) and Ruth Anne Morava (Robert).

Gail fiercely loved her family. Growing up with 4 siblings, they continued to be close into adulthood and lived close enough together to be able to get together for all sorts of shenanigans! Family outings, cookie baking, potlucks, themed family events, sing-a-longs - the Freitags know how to party! Gail often offered to host these events and loved seeing everyone laughing and enjoying being together over good food.

Gail and Mike were getting into the swing of being retired. Camping out near lakes gave them opportunities for fishing, boating and cruising around on Mike's Can Am. She was a constant presence at the events of her children and her grandchildren.

Gail was a light, always thinking about how to help those that she loved. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will continue to be remembered and loved by all that knew her. There will be a celebration of life for Gail’s family and friends at a later date.
