Memories of Edward Sewell are cherished by his son Sirion Sewell, his sisters Darlene Mundell and Paula Flores, his brothers Don Scott and Orlando Flores, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, a special friend Divine Katoure, and a host of other dear friends.
Edward was born August 18, 1946, in Harmans (Matthewstown), MD, and passed December 31, 2020, at California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco, California. He received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree in English Language and Literature/Letter, History, Political Science in 1968 from Bowling Green State University, and an MBA in finance and Marketing from The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. Edward had a long and distinguished business career ranging from corporate America to real estate development, to becoming an entrepreneur. After getting his MBA, he worked as a Financial Analyst at Xerox in Rochester, NY, and as a Project Manager in the Real Estate Division of Irwin Management Company (a Family Office) in Columbus, IN. Edward was “smitten” with Real Estate Development, and for the next 10 years worked in the field for Crocker National Bank and JP Mahoney & Company before striking out on his own as an entrepreneur. He was a sports agent for NFL Players, and assisted in various private real estate development projects. Regardless of what activity he pursued, it was always done at the same speed, “full throttle.” In the last few years of his life, he devoted all of his energies and talent to two things: (1) Helping to raise money for Reinventure Capital- a venture capital firm founded by his friend and former colleague, Edward Dugger III, and (2) Helping to raise funds for Reverend Raphael Warnock’s Senatorial Campaign.
Edward loved traveling and excelled at organizing events for friends. For over 10 years he organized bicycling trips in Sonoma and Napa Valley. Of course, he selected the best accommodations and cuisine, and wineries to visit for tastings. Later, he stepped it up a notch, and organized a bicycling trip for the group to France one year, followed by Italy the following year, with Butterfield and Robinson. After a couple of these trips, he decided he can do this. For the next few years, he did. And we enjoyed some unforgettable trips to the wine regions of both countries with the best accommodations and cuisine as we cycled the countryside. Wonderful memories. Thanks, Edward.
He was close to his undergraduate alma mater, Bowling Green State University, and his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha. He was Vice President of his 1968 graduating class and was instrumental in his class raising one of the largest class philanthropic gifts to the University for their class’ 50th anniversary.
On the personal side, Edward was very well-rounded. He was an avid reader, interested in art, specifically art by African American artists, music, and food and fine wine. He was also a gourmet chef—having gone to culinary school and was in Bon Appetit Magazine. In Edward’s honor, a scholarship in his name has been established at Bowling Green State University. Edward Sewell commencement address

This is a picture of Edward and I was taken in 2018 on the campus of Bowling Green University. It was Edwards 50 year reunion and he was so proud , so me and my family drove down to bowling Green from Detroit to see him, as usual Edward Sewell was the complete host. He showed us around campus he also made sure we ate very well, and my granddaughter Lyric at the time was 8 years really . Edward fell in love with her because she can sing and she's very smart Edward and I met in 1984, why I was playing ball at Purdue University. Edward went on to be my agent in National Football League. Not only it was he my agent and business partner we became excellent friends for over 35 years we talked on the phone maybe four times a week, and three times a day and of course Edward was the email King. Can you imagine for over 35 years talking to person like that all that time on the phone, Edward became my Big Brother. I learned a whole lot from Edward. I miss those days I spent in San Francisco, California with him. Rest in heaven my friend. I will never forget our relationship and the knowledge you have taught me as a Young Man
