Douglas DeWells Doonan passed away on May 27 2025, at the age of 97. He was born to the late Llewellyn and Alice Doonan on March 31, 1928. After returning from service in the Korean War as a radioman he met and married his beloved wife Gail, beginning a journey of 69 years of marriage. He went on to graduate from the Electrical Engineering Department of the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and worked for many years in several capacities at both Bausch and Lomb and Sunstrand. In retirement he and Gail spent most of their time sailing the Great Lakes, traveling internationally, and walking in Durand Eastman Park. Doug was the loving father of Wesley Doonan and Jill (Eric) Olwert. He was predeceased by his sister Gail Doonan Whitson, and leaves behind his brother-in-law Cyril Whitson and their children Amy Oblender, Cy Whitson and Carrie Aukamp.
Into his late 90s he pursued interests in oil painting, amateur seismometry and building telescopes from common construction materials and later 3D printed parts. His curiosity, ingenuity and deep care for others were inspiring to those who knew him.
