Delores Harper-Morales passed away peacefully on Monday, January 16, 2023, in her beloved home at the age of 69. Born on August 4, 1953, in New York, New York to the late Lillian Harper.
Delores grew up in Harlem, USA, and was notorious for her sense of humor and for telling silly jokes. She had such a funny spirit. As a teenager, Delores had a crush on Bruce Lee and attended all of his movies.
Delores received her education in New York where it was obvious that she had exceptional artistic abilities. Her musical calling enabled her to attend the prestigious Rhodes Preparatory School in New York where she honed her calling as a phenomenal singer and pianist. Rhodes Preparatory School’s former students included Ron Brown, U.S. Commerce Secretary, and actor, Robert De Niro. Delores’s voice was pure and captivating and her vocal success afforded her many opportunities such as recording gospel songs with The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and headlining at numerous musical venues throughout New York.
On November 15, 2009, Delores married the love of her life, Victor Morales, Sr. Delores and Victor shared many common traits; but their most important commonality was their love for God. They were members of Bethel Gospel Assembly for many years where she gifted Bethel oftentimes as a soloist in their choir and enjoyed playing their piano. Delores and Victor enjoyed many years of marital bliss before Victor succumbed to COVID-19 in April of 2020. Above all, Delores was a devout Christian, a lady of strength, elegance, and dignity. Filled with kindness and love, her every action emanated unconditional love for God, her family, church, and community. One of her favorite songs was by Andrae Crouch, “The Blood Will Never Lose It's Power.” Delores stood strong in her faith as evidenced by her favorite scripture, 2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight..”
In her final years, Delores was an active member of Messiah’s Reformed Fellowship Church where she sang in the choir and taught a little girl to play the piano whose talents she will share with us today. Delores would often invite people to her performances throughout the city and join in on events like church hikes, etc. In her loving memory, Delores leaves behind a host of family and dear friends.

Sister Dee could always make you laugh. I would always come to her, especially for a good laugh. She never let me down! One of the things I’ll always remember fondly is her recommendation of the Little Rascals aka our gang from the 30s and 40s, not the new stuff she said. She told me, “they will make you laugh so hard you cry.” They did not disappoint.

Every hike email I sent out last summer, got a response from mama D, where she expressed both her desire to join us and her reasons why she couldn’t. She would text me the day off and let me know she was praying for travel and hiking mercies. Then I’d send her a picture from the group that went and gave her a report of the day. I loved that she did that and will miss her emails this coming hiking season.

She ran into these gems. I told them it was her birthday because she wouldn’t have, and they sang her happy birthday 🥳 then I convinced her to take a picture with them.

This was on Mama D’s birthday. We met up to enjoy a summer stage concert that had already happened because we made the mistake and got there and the end time and not the start time. We laughed a lot that evening!
