Celebrating the Life of
June 20, 1959 — March 22, 2024
Dawn C. Carter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024, at the age of 64 surrounded by her loving family.
Born on June 20, 1959, in Alexandria, VA. Dawn was the daughter of the late Robert L. Conner, Sr. and Kay D. Conner. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert L. Conner, Jr. and her sister Susan B. Conner. She is survived by her sister Lycia M. Conner.
Dawn was a devoted wife to Jimmy, her partner in life for 42 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Dawn was an excellent dancer and loved to dance with her husband to Country and Motown music. She also loved to go consignment shopping to find things for her family and friends. She liked to collect coffee mugs to give as gifts to those she loved. She watched The Wheel of Fortune every night. She was an excellent puzzle solver and dreamed of being a contestant.
She held various jobs but eventually she landed at the United States Postal Service where she gave just short of 36 years of dedicated service. There she was a beloved clerk and made lifelong friends with both customers and coworkers alike. She had a very special place in her heart for Wanda and Connie, two of her most cherished coworkers and beloved friends.
Throughout her life, she embodied kindness, compassion, and unwavering strength. As a mother, she was the epitome of selflessness and devotion. She dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting her children, Tina L. Lewis, Crystal D. Carter, Travis L. Carter, and her bonus child, Ryan W. Conner, providing them with love, guidance, and unwavering encouragement. Her unconditional love and boundless patience were a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
Dawn was also a proud grandmother to Khalil, Robert, Jordan, Jayden, Jazzelyn, Jaymee and Jaxson and great grandmother to Kylie, Edyn, Kayvon, Kaedon, and Kamari. She cherished every moment spent with her grand-and-great grandchildren, showering them with love and countless hugs and kisses.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Though she may no longer be with us in the flesh, her legacy of love and kindness will continue to shine brightly through the lives of those she cherished.
Rest in peace, Mom, you will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
