Celebrating the Life of
April 29, 1980 — June 24, 2026
Brittany Fuentes, of Golden, Colorado, passed away June 24, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on April 29, 1980, Brittany lived her 46 years to the absolute fullest. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Brittany had a rare gift: she made everyone around her feel truly seen. That gift, expressed through her family, her friendships, her work, and her community, is the imprint she leaves behind.
Her family was the epicenter of her life. She and her husband, Scott, have been devoted to one another since meeting at the University of North Carolina in graduate school and marrying in 2005. Her children, AJ and Maya, were the greatest joys of her life and her pride for who they are as people, students, athletes and friends was felt whenever she spoke. She was deeply connected to her brother and his family, her mother prior to her passing, and her father, and maintained life-long friendships with “her girls” starting from middle school that endured until the very end.
Brittany’s professional impact has reverberated throughout the field of social work. Brittany served as a medical social worker for over 20 years, focused on hospice and palliative care. She published multiple papers that furthered the field, she learned Spanish fluently (in her 30s!) to better connect with her patients, and she supervised many who were working toward getting licensed, providing guidance and mentorship so they too could make a difference.
Brittany loved running, she was an accomplished marathon runner and went so far as to qualify for and run in the Boston Marathon. Brittany was quick and witty, her sense of humor was always on point and often unexpected. She built community wherever she went, be it through her many friends and loved ones or by being the first person to welcome a new family to the soccer team.
In all ways, Brittany left this world better than she found it through compassion, curiosity, strength of will and always with unrelenting kindness. She will be deeply missed, and always remembered.
Brittany is survived by her husband, Scott Morrissey, their children, AJ and Maya Morrissey, her brother and sister-in-law, Brian Fuentes and Megan Monroe, and her father, Andy Fuentes. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ann Fuentes.
Brittany’s Celebration of Life will be held at The Boettcher Mansion on August 2nd. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the AJ and Maya Morrissey Education Fund to be used to support her children’s education.
